Today single editions are released. This often also in different cases, later re-releases, boxes with childprofiles and more. Most contributors have then the first edition release, therefore this one is maintained well. Later editions are then often cloned from this edition, but after this no changes anymore. I just had the case where I did find, that the first single release had now a big German voice cast and many other changes, though I took it over to the childprofile in the box again. Now my idea for a future DVD-Profiler:

It should be possible to enter in re-releases, boxchilds and others just the UPC/EAN-number of another profile, just the EAN/UPC for Crew and the EAN/UPC for Cast. This would fit to local desires, in the States you could point to UPC of the main US release, in Germany to the first German release and so on. With this we would only have one Crew and Cast to be maintained. If something changes all re-releases and boxchild profiles would also benefit and be on the same standard. Now we get differences from the first day a second profile does start, often boxchild profiles and re-releases are not owned anymore by the main contributors who maintain well the profiles and therefor they get bader and bader.

Technical it would be simple. The posibility to enter in Crew and in Cast the UPC/EAN of the main profile for this profile. Then the Crew and Cast should appear from this profile, if somebody makes a change, common name, BY and others in another release this should appear in the main release then and be changed there. This way we would have thousands of profiles in much better conditions and all of the same film and locality on the same good standard. There are so many re-releases or at release 5 different cases and each makes his own Crew and Cast, just work for nothing. One Crew and Cast should be maintained, this is enough and all other profiles benefit from it. Less work but better profiles are the result.

Perhaps this idea is not new, I did not search, but I find more and more troubles and really bad profiles the more editions and boxes from films are released.

I think this idea belongs in the feature request forum, not the contribution forum.

EDIT: I think this is what you are looking for.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once.
We will teach it to them again.
Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.

Yes, for quite some time, it's been pretty clear that multiple disc ID's, covers, etc. need to be able to be entered for single UPC's. It's anyone's guess if and when this will ever be added.

The idea is not new and the problem was never technical. But I don't think we will see it implemented in DVD Profiler. Those who are interested enough should probably move on to another solution, or learn to live with our limitations.

AIUI the problem is technical in that the 'primary key' used for the database is the UPC/Locality combination. To allow more than one profiler per 'UPC/Locality' would require a change to the primary key of the whole database which may, to some, sound relatively easy but would require significant behind the scenes changes to the core of the DVDP program and would also undoubtedly have significant knock on effects for all the spin-off programs and Apps
It is dangerous to be right in matters where established men are wrong

I'm just saying that it's not a "problem" that lacks a solution, just the means and motivation to do it.
