Right-click on collection list header -> View Columns -> Purchase Date
Sort by Purchase Date

As per Mithi's post, the Database Query plug-in is by far the easiest way to accomplish this - it adds so many features of this sort it's practically a must-have.

At the top of the list.
German: Tabellen-Kopfzeile. Das ist der Teil der Tabelle in dem steht welche Daten darunter folgen.

EDIT:

Database Query requires a relaunch of DVD-Profiler.

RE-EDIT:
Forgot to mention: The solution suggested by DJ Doena will only work if your collection listing is not in thumbnail-mode. If it is, use menu "Collection -> Sort By -> Purchase Date"
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

First, reboot your PC to make sure such old 'ghost' running processes are lost. If it works then, problem solved.

If not, do you have another plugin installed like the CCV (Awards) plug in? Since the database query plugin is made with an older .NET developer version than, for example, the CCV one, installation order is important. Please read this thread, starting from the indicated point, on how to proceed.
