Unfortunately I have to say goodbye to DVDP. I have been a faithful user for just about 8 years. The lack of support for Mac OSX and Android is too much. Ken posted that an Android version would be released right after the latest IOS App was released. That has been over a year. With no comments from Ken I am assuming that neither an OSX version or an Android version is coming out ever. With Android close to taking over the market share in mobile devices I would think that at least an Android version would be released. I really love the program but I need both a Mac OS X version and an Android version. If these versions are released I might switch back until then I will have to go elsewhere to catalog my movies.

Huh?  But you just said Ken posted that an Android version would be released.

Since a computer is nothing without the software, I would think we would purchase hardware that ran the software we wanted to use rather than cry that the software we need doesn't run on the hardware we decided to purchase.  How silly of me.

Maybe I should write to EA and state that I stop using Crysis3 (after purchase, of course) until they finally publish a Be-OS version.
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

I agree with Verdejt. It would be nice to have DVDP for Mac.
Movie Collectorz has a colorful Mac application but I prefer DVDP since I have been using it for so long.

Another perspective:

As it is unlikely that any program uses the same database format on all platforms, don't you essentially have to import / export / sync between platforms anyway?

I think CollectorZ has DVDP XML import. I realize that it would be preferable to have a single program, but does it really matter all that much? The user interface for DVDP iOS is not the same as for the Windows version anyway. The database formats are different. You have to sync between them. So, why not use the best available program on each platform and use conversion methods (which can be automated) to keep them in sync?

I'm just askin' ...

Why do I want to take a step backwards. I am a Computer Engineer and have been since the 286 processor was hot news. Windows is nothing more than a memory hog and is so bloated and runs sluggishly and let's not get started on the update of the day subject and all the security issues. My Mac runs just as fast today as it did when I purchased it in 2007, you can't say that about any Windows machine., trust me I know. I deal with it every day dealing with customers and their Windows machines. The Unix Operating System that OSX is based on is the best running in the world. That is what 90% of all tactical military systems run on. I know this as I used to work on them when in the Navy. Hardware would fail before software.
One doesn't purchase hardware just to run the software you need. You purchase the best hardware that will last the longest and is the most stable and has the best OS that meets your needs. I am not running out to replace my computers because of one program. DVDP is the and always has been the  one piece of software that needs Windows. Everything else I use is OSX native. Since I don't play games on my computer, I have a PS3 for that and in all reality I would never base my computer needs on a game that needs a certain OS.
If it is posted that an Android version is gong to be release soon and gives a general time frame then I feel as good customer relations at least dictates some sort up posted update to the time line of release. I have read all over these forums that others have are fed up as well waiting for a product that will probably never be released. My issue is that if there is no real intention to release an Android version then just come out and say so. I know Ken has already stated that he won't release a Mac version.
As far as mediadogg's suggestion about cross converting, I'm sorry but this is a huge waste of time, I have so precious little of it as it is that I feel that in my situation this isn't feasible.

It seems as if you feel you are taking a step backwards by giving up DVD Profiler, since you say it is unfortunate that you have to move to another solution.  I guess this is a classic example of one step forward and two steps backward.

verdejt,

if your only Windows-PC is only there to run DVDProfiler I can understand why you want to leave.
For all those that think that proprietary Hard- and Software solutions are to preferred to openly built systems, please enjoy your Apple and Google powered machines. You will surely learn about the difference as soon as the next repair is needed. Hardware fails! Even on a Mac.

Regarding the "Memory-Hog"-thesis, this was correct for Windows systems up to Vista. Win7 and 8 have a memory management that is by far more efficient than OSX, trust me, this is something I know. The minimum installation of Win8 will run with 512 MB of RAM (tested!), I'm quite sure that OSX wouldn't even install on such a system.

Don't get me wrong, I too would like to see versions of DVDProfiler for all available (programmable) platforms and if only to put Invelos on a more stable basis.
Best of all is, in fact, an entirely platform independent solution.

But I see absolutely no sense in complaining about the lack of supported platforms after purchase.
This is like buying a car and then telling the manufacturer that you are not going to use it until they finally produce engines that run without gas.

When purchasing this product you knew that only Windows was supported and if you only picked up the minimum information freely available about this product, you knew that the project was (and is) powered by only one programmer. You too could have known that the licensing model of Intervocative and Invelos wouldn't allow for mass-employment of new software-developers.

So please allow me one question:

What did you expect to happen??
A miracle or a sudden lottery win?

(Ooops, this were two questions)
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

AIUI you can still run Windows on a Mac and run DVDP under that. Sadly for Mac useres there just aren't enough of them to make it worthwhile producing a Mac specific version (and updating it at the same pace as the Windows version for all future releases thus delaying any updates even further).

As for Andriod, though it would be ideal to have a fully integrated, syncing Android program (and I certainly hope Ken does write and release one), there is a home-brew Android program, created by kitarolivier  , which uses the main DVDP data from your database which (judging by the thread length) has a good following and is actively supported:

See this thread:

http://www.invelos.com/Forums.aspx?task=viewtopic&topicID=575354&PageNum=1

It's not ideal and is a bit fidly but it works!
It is dangerous to be right in matters where established men are wrong

I hear that. By the way, with your background, I would be interested on your perpsectives on Windows 8 / RT. I think there are a couple of threads around. If you decide to make a post, I would eagerly read it. Good luck, by the way.
