One way think might work is to create a  number of Collection Categories, one for each defined disk collection you want eg. Romance, Sci-Fi, Thriller, Horror etc if doing so by genre and set each category to Globally Unique numbers and tick Include contents in owned collection:

Right click on "Owned" tab -> Other -> Edit Collection Categories

You want to clear out the numbering as much as possible so set one profile to Collection Number "None" in Personalise and Copy it; then Flag all and Paste it to all Flagged.

Note: If you really want *some* profiles to be left un-numbered you may want to set Tags on them to sort this later.

Then move the titles you want to the appropriate Category (use the Sort By options to get them all together, Flag the ones you want and then Collection -> Flagged -> Move to...)

After they are separated out reassign the numbering:

Collection -> Reassign Collection Numbers
Select the renumber only radio button for one of the collections and make sure you set "Assign Where Set to None" for Partial reassignment.

Do this for each category in turn; because they are set to globally unique it should start where the previous one left off.

Finish up by unsetting None for one profiles's Collection Number in personalise, flagging them all and copy pasting as above. This should mean any future renumbering will work properly (this is the bit where you may need to use those Tags to then make the ones you *want* not to be numbered remain as "none")

The process may not work exactly as advertised (!) as i'm just working on logic not a practical attempt but it should be a solid starting point I think.

HTH; Good Luck!
