An interesting issue has come up and I'm not sure how it's dealt with. Right now, I have probably 100+ titles where the digital copy is checked on both the Blu-ray parent profile and, when it's contained on the DVD child profile, checked there as well. So, should it be checked in the parent profile or be left off when it's also contained on a child profile?

It would seem logical to me, that if a combo pack contains the exact same movie both on DVD and Blu-ray, that only the parent has the Digital copy checked.

Just my 2 cents ...

Are those digital copies on separate (third) disc or included in DVD?

Blu-ray + DVD + Digital Copy or Blu-ray + DVD/Digital Copy combo?

For the question at hand, they're on the DVD itself. I know for DC on a separate disc, it'd be checked in the parent profile but wasn't sure about if it's a DVD/DC combo. In all the profiles I have (mainly Warner Brothers releases), the DC would be checked in the Blu-ray parent profile as well as the DVD child profile.

I would do this (and have done).

We need to remember that in the case where you have multiple media types of the same movie in the same release such as a BD/DVD combo.  The DVD child profile is optional and many people do not download them.  I personally like them, but many do not.

So in these cases it seems to me that the DC really needs to be in the parent.  As for in both the parent and DVD child where the DC exists on the DVD Disc I could go either way.  It seems valid to me since it is on that profiled disc and it is an optional child profile.

Agree with Scooter:

It has to be in the main profile because the child DVD profile is optional.
I would put it on the DVD child profile if it's on the same disc as it is correct for that (optional) profile (in the same way as I'd put on or leave off featurettes as appropriate... )

Fully agreed. That's how I've always treated these.

Agree as well. Whether or not to include it on the DVD child profile depends on whether the DVD actually contains the digital copy or not.

Anyone else hate combo packs?

I guess I don't really hate them, but when buying a BD that is all I'm buying for, not a dvd or digital copy. For these I don't keep child profiles as I'm more trying to track how many different movies I have, not how many versions I got in one package. I also think digital copies are a waste of time and plastic, so when they are on the dvd disc at least that limits the waste. Being of a collector mentality, I can't throw out the DC discs I don't want or use though.

If anyone loves digital copies and sees something in my collection with one that hasn't expired yet, PM me and I'll hook you up with the code. I'll never use any of them.

Yes. Combo Packs are completely useless, as are Digital Copies and BD-Live.

I know some people like it who don't have a Blu-ray player in every room, a BD-ROM drive or a portable player.

They're not useless to all people. I've used the DVD in Combo Packs before when I've taken the movie over to a friend's house to watch.

Combo packs are also useful for people who have not yet bought a Blu-ray player, but would like to enjoy it now on DVD while also being prepared for a Blu future.

I have no use for Digital Copies, but there are people who use them on mobile devices.

Agreed.  I have a Blu-ray player, my kids don't.  Without the DVD version, I would have to give up my TV or they would have to watch films when I do.

In addition to that, I have portable DVD players, so use the DVD copy when I travel.

Another benefit of combo packs cropped up for me recently:  buying a movie for my niece and nephew, I didn't know if they had a Blu-ray player, so got the combo pack.  No muss; no fuss.

Christmas, we took our newly acquired copy of A Christmas Carol (Alastair Sim version) to my sister's to watch--good thing the DVD was present, since she is, er, "Blu-less."
