We used to do it with DVDInfoPro, but that no longer has a free version. Is there any other free way to check?

Edit: Never mind. It does still have a free version. It's just adware now.

DVD Region + CSS free can do this (and some more usefull thing). When I got it some years ago it cost me 40$, but now it is free.

VSO Inspector is also free and can easily determine a DVD's region(s).

Maybe I'm an idiot but I can't figure out how VSO Inspector tells you the region of a disc--I just see that it tells you the region of your drive.

I use VSO Inspector;
also for those who wondering about the number of levels;
your drive info;
check the files & sectors;

Mainly, I use it to check the discs on complete series with a large number of discs that I know I will not get around to watching right away;
some examples:
The Fugitive: The Most Wanted Edition: Seasons 1-4: 33 discs;
Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman: The Complete Series: 38 discs;
Naked City: The Complete Series: 29 discs;
all the Law & Order: 171 discs (not all SVU, still active are released)
and so forth.
We don't need stinkin' IMDB's errors, we make our own.
Ineptocracy, You got to love it.
