I have had the DVD Profiler for about three years now, and still i dont know all the "tips and tricks" to it. But thre have been a couple of questions that i cannot seem to figure out on certain things. hopefully someone can helpe me out. Thanks for reading this and i look forward to reading your responses.

Creating a Profile:
I have several dvd's that i cannot seem to find in the database. I have about 2-5 "spanish tv shows" that i bought from walmart that have not been added, and some other American shows like "criss angel in japan" and "runs house season 1 and 2". What can i do to create it from scratch, UPC, name, etc... and then if people have more information they can add more info too

Child Profiles:
I've noticed that my tv shows when i add then i get asked if i want to add the "child profiles" and when i click yes it comes back up like if i bought it as in a single disk form? Also it looks like it gives it a #. so for example smallville season 1 is # 200. when adding child profile disk 1 is #201 and so on. any way i can fix that?

Restarting all over again:
I have given away or sold some of my movies in my collection, i don't remember what movies they were, but i never kept my collection up to date. I was thinking about restarting my collection again and setting them up like before, but i know that it takes time and effort. Seeing that i have a little over 600 dvds right now i don't know when i will finish. I did get a scanner for a few days which i just wanna try it out. LOL.

Creating a Profile:
1) Click the CD with the green plus on it located (by default) at the top left of the screen (or press CTRL+Insert).

2) In the new window, that's titled "Add DVDs to [some location]" if you have the UPC, click the "Add by UPC" tab; if not click the "Add by Title" tab.

3) At the bottom left of that same window, uncheck "Download profiles from Invelos" which will change the center area on the window.

4) Type in the data you have, click "Add DVD" (bottom right), repeat if you have more titles, and when done "Add Now to [location]"

5) You can end there if you would like [keeping your data local and not in the database. If you want to try and submit the new data to the database, select the profile then go to in the menu "Online -> Contribute DVD Profile..." This will open a new window in your browser which you use (following the instructions) to submit your data.  To see later if what you have added has been accepted, here at the forum you see menu options at the top of the page. Click "Database -> Contributions -> My Contributions."

If it is not accepted (likely due to improperly submitting something, usually because the rules are so confusing and particular), come back here and we can explain some of the rules that you did not follow properly in terms of the data entered.  (The rules can be found under the forum menu "Database -> Tools -> Contribution Rules"  They can be a bit confusing and lengthy at first, so don't be discouraged if you do something incorrectly. We can help you. After all, every accepted profile by member -- new or old -- helps improve the database.)

Child Profiles:
1) Click on the profile that you don't want to see a number for (eg: #201) and double-click on it or press CTRL+E.

2) Under the "Personal Information" side tab, go to the bottom of that first square on the left and you will see "Collection Number:"  Select the "None" checkbox and it will gray out the box. Also, if you don't want that DVD to be added in your general count (eg: a boxed set as a single DVD instead of one for each disc) Change the "1" found in "Count As:" to a "0"

3) Click "OK."

Restarting all over again:
If you want to restart fresh...

1) Click "File -> Open Database..."

2) In the new window, click the "New Database..." button and go through the process.

3) Select that database (open it) and then you can go back to the old one and delete it from the same screen. I would suggest, however, that you keep it (or at least make a backup copy of the old database just in case you want to use the data again.

(I don't think that I missed anything that you were asking for. If so, let me know.)
If at first you don't succeed, skydiving isn't for you.

He who MUST get the last word in on a pointless, endless argument doesn't win. It makes him the bigger jerk.

A suggestion for starting over...there is a plugin out there that allows you to do an inventory of your collection. It opens in another screen, so you're working there, not in profiler. And since you have a scanner right now, you can scan what you have, leaving the ones you've sold. You can then go back to profiler, flag the profiles you no longer own and delete them.

Might take a little longer, but you wouldn't have to go back and add all your purchase info/watched by info/reviews.

The plugin is called DVD Inventory.

@ Blair: Thanks sooooo much this information is really helpful for me. I really didn't know how to much of this stuff, since i just use it to keep track of my movies and such.

@ LJG: I really didn't plan on starting over, but because i want to have a more accurate count of "DVD's" not "disk". Like i said previously i have sold some of my movies, and added new ones, but those child profiles are a pain in my ass, and of course some of the movies i have are not added on the system i guess. as noted above, i don't really use a lot of the functions for DVD Profiler, i just use it to keep track of my dvds, how much i spent a year, and keep track of what i have.

@ Voltaire53: you are right these are really good replies, and i cannot wait to get to use them.
