| | Posted: | | | | Based on a discussion going in the American Ratings topic, what movies with an MPAA rating had an Unrated version that was significantly different (for better or worse)?I submit that 90% of all unrated versions aren't anything special, just some deleted scenes thrown in ("Knight's Tale" and "xXx" did this), but there are few out there that did make some big changes.
Since it was recently released, I'd say for the better the Extended Cut of "Salt" was way different from the theatrical version including a new ending. |

| | Posted: | | | | Man Bites Dog has two important scenes cut for an R rating which significantly changes the emphasis of the film.
With the scenes removed it becomes a much more straightforward indicment/satire on the way the media influences and gets involved with it's subjects with some 'desensitisation to violence' overtones thrown in.
With the two scenes in place it not only makes the above message more powerfully but also adds an ew level in that the shock value of them can suddenly make the viewer go from desensitised to the violence of the rest of the film and laughing along at the very black humour to "oh, hang on, that's not funny any more... and I was laughing along with this guy... at all the violence that had gone before... what does that say about me?" | | | | It is dangerous to be right in matters where established men are wrong |

Yeah, the Kingdom of Heaven director's cut is a far better and more rounded film. Not sure about Troy, been a while since I've seen that one. |

Yeah, the Kingdom of Heaven director's cut is a far better and more rounded film. Not sure about Troy, been a while since I've seen that one. It's still pile of crud though. |

| | Posted: | | | | Dawn of the Dead 04, for gore! Don't think there was much extra story, but all the best effects are in the unrated. Just watched "The Neighbor" unrated and then checked out the great comparison site: http://www.movie-censorship.com/... big chunks of that are missing from the R cut. Check the site out, they have most alternate versions compared with screens and (sometimes too) detailed descriptions of the differences. Don't check before watching either cut as spoilers abound. |
