Rather than cribbing this info off other sites like IMDB or Amazon, where do we go for this information?

I usually look at the distributing studio's website or a website that posts the studio press release for the disc.

I don't suppose we have a URL/listing of distributing studio websites? (Short of subscribing to IMDB Pro ...)

There is no real 'authoritative source' for this information.  If you can find it on the distributors website, that is great.  If not, a couple of different sources, that agree, is usually enough.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.

Just be careful with the releasedates given by Amazon, they usually list the RD of the latest rerelease.
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

Another site you can go to for recent releases is http://www.videoeta.com.  It's not much help on really old releases, but newer (and upcoming) stuff it's a pretty good site.

Most sites do this actually; it's really hard to track down original release dates for some items!

Or the original price. I see plenty of incorrect prices being submitted for DVDs all the time.

SRP, release date and the cover scans. Since I keep all ordered and owned locked down I see a lot of that. Except for some sales, most of my DVDs are pre-ordered.

You may ask, why don't I correct those errors as I see them...well I like Skip and others I'm feed up with people who do not take the trouble to read or try to follow the rules. If their parents didn't teach that, damn sure I'm not going to try to. I just don't have time and life for me is to short.

In the notes field I keep the order number and date ordered, the ordered date field is the date I paid and they were sent; and I tag the store I bought them from. Before the year 2000 I bought all of my DVDs locally as they were released. After I retired until 2000 I was pretty feed up with remote computing. I had been fighting and debugging it since the '60's and believe me the reliability was pretty sad.
We don't need stinkin' IMDB's errors, we make our own.

I do my very best to follow the rules and contribute data that follows those rules. But, I have found that multiple accurate sources for SRP and Release Date difficult to find - this is especially true for older DVDs.

I want the database to be as accurate as possible and hope that you will reconsider your position.

One must be careful; studios often list a new release date when they change the MSRP.  So you could end up with both being wrong.
