See UPC 043396-212688

It is a custom case with extra stuff.

The DVD contents are

Disc 1  Theatrical Version
Disc 2  Special Edition
Disc 3  Director's Cut

Should This be a

1 Box Set
2 Movie with bonus feature Films
3 Standard profile with 3 discs (Similar to Full Screen on 1 side wide screen on the other)

As Bill O'Reilly says -

  What say you?

Agreed; I know some people treat the BR set as a box locally due to potentially different credits and to supply more individual detail BUT as i read the Rules this only has local applicability.

In the Blade Runner set, "The Final Cut" is presented as the main feature, the other versions as "Archival Versions."  But in the Close Encounters set, none of the versions is presented as the main feature; they are just called "all three versions."

I would profile this as a boxset of three films--three versions of the same film, yes, but three films.

I would agree; this isn't the same situation as Blade Runner.  I'd make it a boxset of 3 versions, a la Brazil.

Brazil was actually just two movies , ,the third disc were documentaries ..

I have followed CEOTTK over the decades and the longer version was a Television premiere that had a lot of cut footage inserted.,  in which Spielberg oversaw and approved.. It was then spread from theatrical 132 minutes to over 143 (?)., then shortened to 137., then finally to 135 min. Special Ed). Haven't spent anytime checking out this set that is being discussed here., but I Love the longer version where Dreyfus is throwing the dirt and bricks into his living room from outside., that plus other scenes ( I saw Big Foot once) were never in the original.
In the 60's, People took Acid to make the world Weird. Now the World is weird and People take Prozac to make it Normal.

The original theatrical version from 1977 contained the scene in which Roy Neary throws dirt and garbage from the garden into his living room. It was removed for the "Special Edition" in 1980, and - as far as I remember - it has been included in the "Collector's Edition" from 1997. These three versions are all on the existing Blu-ray- / 3-DVD-edition, wherein the "Collector's Editon" has been renamed to "Director's Cut".
