I've done a search and I am coming up empty.

What exactly are the Child Profiles and is there a way to make them not use new disc numbers? For example, maybe have them be numbered as 1a, 1b, 1c.

Part 2:

Can you go back and add child profiles for DVD's already in your collection?

When DVDs are released in a boxset then the usual way for Profiler to treat them is to class the boxset itself as a "parent profile" and the individual films as "child profiles". These are only names, and the only difference in the profiles is the amount of data they hold in the online database.
As for the numbering, if you have the "prompt for personalisation" tickbox checked and you are adding them to your "owned" list, then you have the option of changing the number as they are added. Unfortunately only numbers are allowed, but you could tick the "none" box on the child profiles.

Part 2:
Yes, in the latest version of Profiler select the boxset profile then press Ctrl+F12. This will check for and ask to download any child profiles. Unfortunately this skips the personalise option, so you'll have to fix the collection numbers after.

Assuming you've updated to the v3.5.1 release just select the disc you want child profiles for and press Ctrl-F12.

If there are child profiles you will be offered the chance to download them.

Yup, I'm all caught up to date with v3.5.1.

Hopefully in a future version, they can have an option to turn off numbers for Child Profiles automatically.

Personally I'd prefer the feature to turn off numbers for Parent Profiles automatically... like most users (AIUI) I number the films, not the packages!

The again, if I used individual disc child profiles for TV series I'd want those turned off and the parent numbered... so automatically doing it either way would cause problems for one typew of entry... maybe it's just easier to do it by hand
It is dangerous to be right in matters where established men are wrong
