Thinking of purchasing this after a certain other company decided to ruin their own program with stupid decisions, but I had a few questions first:

1) I see it's a one-time fee to buy it.  Is this seriously, no-BS, "you pay one time and you have a license for life", or is this like the program I've been using where it's "one-time fee, until we come out with a new version, then you have to pay again"?

2) Does this program (or an external plugin) support importing data from a certain other program (hint: it's made for movie "collectorz")?  I've added 700+ titles to my database in that program and I'm hesitant to have to readd them all here.

Thanks!

#1  - YES! It is indeed free updates. This is no BS here. I paid for the software several years ago... and even when the software changed companies there still was no charge for the update. I would be totally shocked if I seen an update charge now!

#2 - nothing within the program itself... but some people made plugins that may make it easier to add your collection. Check the plugin page for UPC IMPORT and if I am not mistaken Bulkedit has something for it as well.

Hey George,

First of all: welcome to the Asylum!

1) As Pete said: it is exactly what you said: "you pay one time and you have a license for life". Personally, I regard it as the best investment of thirty bucks of my entire life.

2) Through a plugin importing your collection from your program is fairly easy. You can find a "cookbook" on how to do it here (scroll down to the post starting with V.088 available).
The plugin in question is called BulkEdit and can be found here.

Good luck!

DJ

As others have already pointed out, Yes, it's no BS...one-time license fee.

Also, the BulkEdit plugin can import collections from other programs, i.e., Collectorz. But, I believe, correct me if I'm wrong, Plugins are only available for download to Premium Key holders.

I believe the plugin will work for free until you add 50 titles to your collection.  Then it stops working.  It happened to most of the DVDSpot refugees.

The download link for the plugin I provided is hosted independently from Invelos. So I think that, unless our fellow user mediadogg programmed it to only work with licensed program versions, it should work.

Edit: the limitation to 50 titles James is talking about is a limitation of DVD Profiler, not of the plugin. Check out this page.

Closing in on 8+ years of use, and free updates, and I have only payed once.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once.
We will teach it to them again.
Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.

Thanks for the info, much appreciated!

One other question... I'm getting the low-res covers right now and I see that this is because I haven't registered yet, but how good are the cover scans for paid users?  Are they similar to, better than, or worse than DVD Empire?

They are about 500X700p... here is an example of the first one in my list...

As addicted has said, the pictures are 500*700 tops, but they can be less, for example when the dimensions of the box are not 5:7, e.g.

or nobody has scanned a better cover yet.

But locally you can use pictures as big as you want them to be.

Hi GeorgeFive

I'm also hit with the same dilemma (from collectorz stupid decision). Did you already try the import? I must say, I have not updated every UPC Number of my movies and I also have a few of them, but the BulkEdit only mastered the ones with a UPC number stored...

Any hints??

I'm no expert but sine the 'master' key for DVD Profiler is the UPC then I would say it MUST know what UPC to import. If it just sees a title how is it supposed to know which of the potentially huge number of versions of the release to import?
