What a nightmare for every collector! I feel sorry for you 

You could use the tag system in the profiler to mark the stolen dvd's (Filter Tab/Tags).

Another method to have a "stolen only" collection list, would be to create a new database!

For your insurance company you can mark the stolen dvd's (with the space-key) and create a report!

An *.xml export would be an alternative as well, If you like to mail a list.

yeah, I thought of that, but would like to keep the date that I originally bought dvd at least until its replaced. I might just have to print off a list and edit the purchase details as they are replaced.

FWIW I just moved a title from Owned to Wishlist and when I moved it back to Owned it does actually retain the date/place/price of purchase.

First let me say How truly sorry I am to hear of this predicament..,  Now  to get this answered to the best way I know how., I see your wish list's top priority is Like to have and Vague interest.. Put these MUST have titles in the top priority  ( REALLY want IT ),  along with the Notes box outlining when they were stolen and the price and place where you originally purchased them..  This way the titles will be on the top tier and will be a constant reminder to get them replaced..

Have you checked eBay for any of the titles (used)  for a lower price??

I might do as you suggest WSF, but  I will have to wait and see about insurance, should be no problems, but when I called insuarnce company, they asked "did I have receipts showing when I bought each of the missing dvd's.I could not believe them, why would I keep receipts for a $20 dvd, and what about gifts, I'm not likely to receipts for those. Am I expected to have them for evrything I ever buy that can be stolen.

Not sure how they pay as this is the first claim through this insuarnce company, some are a bit strange here in Aus, as though they expect every claim to be at least a bit fraudulent, so will only give you a voucher for the exact dvd's that were stolen, but I don't think this one is like that. .

I also found they only cover $2000 for dvd's (which will be enough in this case) or I would have  insure the whole lot separately, listing every dvd....gee what a shame, that might take about 2 minutes to print a list from profiler...mind I don't know how much it would add to my premiums if I insure that way, and insurance won't find OOP dvd's for me. Not sure how they deal with other Region 1 & 2 dvd's though, luckily only a few of those were stolen.

Might have to start scrolling ebay for those hard to find ones, but will have to wait until I get the cheque in the mail before I start grabbing that limited Gold Edition of Ronin with DTS.

In this case, I think it was just coincidence that a few of my OOP dvd's were stolen. I have 2 bookcases, one for movies in Alphabetical and another for TV shows and Documentaries again in Alphabetical. The theives just grabbed from P to X in my movies, they were the closest to the exit, and there happend to be about 3 or 4 of the 40 odd stolen that were OOP.

I like the idea of a stolen tag, but can't imagine it is a common occurance...anyone one been in my situation?

How many other people have had dvd's stolen from their home?

I'm sure we all own lots of things for which we haven't kept receipts.  I'd hate to think we would have to do that to get reimbursed for our losses.

I know nothing about insurance in Australia, and really very little about it here in the US, but one thing I do know is that you need separate insurance (or a rider on your policy) to cover "special things" like jewelry, coin collections, stamps, firearms {here we're allowed to own them }, so I suppose DVDs would be in that list.  Without these policy riders, we're often limited on what we can recover from the insurance.
