Hi,

maybe this topic has already been discussed, but unfortunately I was not able to find something in the search or in the topics

I assume this is a simple question for the power users - but I have troubles with adding two 2 disc DVDs to my collection. As I have them in folders with ascending numbering.

If I therefore add a two disc special edition it the profiler always adds the DVD-set always with one DVD-number leaving the next one open for the next DVD - but in fact, this number is blocked for with the bonus disc etc.

Any hints for me as a newbie ?

Many thanks in advance . . .

br, Philipp

Hi,

I'm not entirely sure what you are asking. Is it that you want 2-disc editions to take up two collection numbers in your collection, so that the numbers exactly counts the number of physical discs you have?

I'm not sure that is so easily possible. The numbers generally count the number of purchased items, though there is some leeway with respect to box sets / child profiles. Every item in your collection can have a collection number, or not have one, but it can't have two or more. Box sets of films (and also most tv series) have entries in the database for the box itself as well as for each of the films in it (assuming each disc has no more than one film). Each of those child profiles can be assigned their own collection number, as can their parent profile.

Unfortunately, 2-disc special editions of films will never have their bonus disc entered in the database separately. If you insist on getting the collection numbers to exactly match the number of discs in those cases too, you would have to add a manual profile entry for the bonus disc yourself, and possibly add it as a child profile to the other disc.

I think that is a crummy way to get the exact match, but I don't see any other way. I think it would be a nice feature if the program could simply tell me how many discs there are in my collection by counting the number of disc IDs.

Which would of course go totally wrong for TV sets if you are using child profiles as the Disc-IDs are in the parent and child profile Disc-info.

I suppose it could try to could unique Disc IDs but this is still subject to potential errors in the TV series area if there is more than one Disc-ID available for an individual disc (quite common) and also doesn't take into account the number of profiles without Disc-IDs entered anyway!

Of course, it might not be totally accurate if the data does not accurately reflect your actual collection. Profiles without disc IDs (and no child profiles) could just count as 1 disc by default. Profiles with children should count as MAX(# discs in parent profile, total # discs in child profiles), applied recursively if there are grandchild profiles. I think that would give a reasonable estimate.

If anyone feels strongly about this, go ahead and post it in the Feature Request forum.
