| Posted: | | | | Hi there, I am a new user of dvd profiler and there are a couple things i can't seem to figure out. First, is there a way to search movies by director or actors? Second, i have entered all my movies on my laptop but also want them on my home pc. Can i download from the database instead of having to re-enter everything?
Thanks so much, Courtney |

You may need to activete the Filter window, which you would do with View|Windows|Filters. Then find the Crew or Cast tabs and select the people you want to find. The collection will then be filtered down to the DVDs that contain those people.
To transfer the collection, it's best to use the Backup and Restore function... | | | Achim [諾亞信; Ya-Shin//Nuo], a German in Taiwan. Registered: May 29, 2000 (at InterVocative) |

1. You can search your moves by using the Filters located at the top of the list of movies (assuming you still have the default skin). If you've accidentally turned it off, you can turn on the window by going into View -> Windows and checking "Filters".
2. The easiest way would be since you've uploaded your DVD collection to the site, on the other PC you can simply download your online collection. Online -> DVD Profiler Online and just choose Download instead of Upload. (This is assuming you only use the info available in the online database. Once you start modifying your data so it's different then what was originally downloaded then as Ya_Shin says it's better to do a Backup/Restore of the database to preserve your custom data) | | | "Rules are for the obedience of fools and the guidance of wise men" - Douglas Bader "A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools." - Douglas Adams | | | Last edited: by Vega |

This will create a file called backup.dpb. Copy this file to your home pc and do a restore (File --> restore database). This will also restore all your local information which is not copied to the online database (Cast Headshots, notes, sort titles,...)

To transfer the collection, it's best to use the Backup and Restore function... I would recommend this procedure, I practice this myself with my laptop and workstation. You know how it works? 1. Make a full backup of your database, including all flags. File extension is *.dpb (e.g. DP_16.07.2007.dpb) 2. This is the file you can restore in the profiler installed on your laptop or elsewhere So you have a 1:1 backup of your data! hth! | | | Thorsten |

| Posted: | | | | Questions answered but additional info: Double click on an actor/director in the cast/crew lists it will bring up actor details and a list of all the films they are in within your colleciton FWIW I 100% recommend moving collections via backup/restore NOT via upload to MyProfiler online and then downloading it again as this does not contain all the data and is only intended as an emergency backup, not a standard way to move your database around. If you find the backup file is too big, what I do is backup without images and then download the images after the restore; unless you use your own scans this saves a lot of space... a backup without images is about 1.5K/profile (my 2000 DVD database (inlcudes a big wishlist) takes about 3Mb and is easily emailable).
