Firstly I know there is a help FAQ that points to the sort order being odd and how to fix it .... enter the Sort Title value on the personal tab.

My question is Why?  Should this not use the DVD Title if there is no sort title.  I just remember it working like that in the old system.

Maybe this was an oversite, however as it is in the "personal data" section I do not see how this would be uploaded.  So what happens when someone else downloads the dvd I uploaded?  Do they get a sort order?

It does; by default it copies the DVD Title into the sort title if there isn't a Sort title specified.

The only difference is with 3.0 if you delete the Sort title it doesn't default to the DVD title, it really sorts it as if it is blank

Not sure. In 2.4 I think it uploaded the sort title of the first person who created the new profile (and note that in 3.0 sort title is actually under Personal AND main profile) so it will probably work the same with 3.0.

I think there might be a bug in there ... if you clear the sort title from the EDIT screen, then it stays blank. If you try to do that from the Personalise screen, when you clear it it gets silently set to the title. If you clear it in the edit screen, and then visit the personalize screen, it appears blank, but clicking OK silently sets it back to the title.

I had this issue when adding a new title not in the database.  Never cleared or set the sort name and it was left blank.

Bug me thinks.

Agreed with FredLooks that what he describes looks like a bug (I noticed it too but couldn't pin down when it happened specifically) but I must say I've added plenty of new titles and not had MoonShadow's problem.
