Quote: Yeah, the stars are related to forum posts only. To get stars you have to create a huge virtual collection. Then vote yes to each and every contribution, but, and that's the important thing, with a remark like "OK", "Oki", "Good", "Very good", "thx", "thanks", "thank you", "nice job", "excellent job", "good job again", "looks fine", to activate the clickable rating symbol. The stars will come from their own.
Please be creative, you can also do combinations, eg "Oki good job thx". Just don't bore the contributor. ... and FWIW I've given (and received) quite a few Greenies for Contributions where I've No voted and let the user politely know what error they have made and how to fix it... it's not just a feedback system for saying thanks! | | | It is dangerous to be right in matters where established men are wrong |

In case you don't know how this is done: On the voting page, underneath "Neutral", "Yes" and "No" there is a white piece of paper. This will take you to the page where you can give positive or negative feedback. It's just about the forum posts in here. Nothing to do with the contributions. Those two things should be seen separate from each other. btw. | Posted: | | | | I've had at one point in time, around 25 yes clicks, no reds, have had hundreds of other greens, never one red arrow, and still I'm "Normal Rating". Forum Posts: 1394 Accepted Profile Contributions: 1560 Accepted Image Contributions: 765 I gave up on that star thing ever going up, it's fine, I know I'm good. |

I don't what to see a system where people who contribute a lot get stars and those who don't contribute don't get stars. That would lead to competition and to some less scrupulous users manipulating the contribution system to earn their stars. For example breaking up a big contribution into many tiny contributions.
As it is to the other users to give the ratings, I think such attempts would earn no/less positive ratings, so this would get balanced. Quote: ... Also, there are more ways to contribute than just profile contributions. Some people contribute profiles. Others contribute links, plug-ins, help in the forums plus other helpful things like sites hosting data others may wish to grab. ... Some do it one way, some do it another way. So it would just be fair to get the same chance for all to get a positive rating. |

| Posted: | | | | Seeing how people reason here and how I myself feel about the current rating system, it's looks a bit like "fascism". I mean, why is it seen as a more valuable input for this community to comment on contributions and to make special forum posts, than it is in general to for example contribute correct data, improved scans, etc? You can't even vote for a contribution itself... But only actually the other way around; the person who gives you a "go-ahead" for your contribution and also types some random text, can get a positive vote. What's up with that?
Either way, the system as it is today is no fun at all and only those who really have time to sit here on a daily basis or really, really try hard to "contribute" are likely to get better ratings than normal. |

| Posted: | | | | I have given out many green arrows to members of the community who still don't have any stars. The value of the community members are not represented by those stars. I joked around about my cute panda but I really have no idea why or how they end up showing up. I know I got my first one for posting a really cool video - but after that I have no idea...maybe it is the cute panda! | | | Last edited: by Kathy |

Look for this icon ( ) on the far left of the entries of the Pending Updates List or on the far right underneath the "Vote No" image inside of a pending contribution. Either of these takes you to the contribution notes page where you can see the green and red arrows for voting the pending contribution... but only for the first two days just like for posts on the forum. | | | If at first you don't succeed, skydiving isn't for you.

You learn something new every day. I found it, but yes indeed it is in an odd and inconvenient place! First of ally you have to know about it to be able to give your vote and second of all you have to give a damn to spend the time and give that vote. I don't think very many people either know about it or care about it. Regardless of which, I don't see any point in having a rating system on this site. It creates an unnecessary hierarchy. It's not actually fair, people get jealous and maybe also put down despite their efforts with contributing as much as they can. Another thing that I see as a reason is that some people may have lots of friends giving each other votes as well as there might be less popular people or less charismatic people that rarely gets a vote. |

I find it a little bit sad that most greenies seem to go to such threads, which albeit funny and cute, have little to do with the core business here. I'd rather give my greenies to people who contribute, make valuable remarks in their notes and add to the headshot database. What's the point a cat picture doesn't help no one.... Not that I really care about the system. The only thing that make no sense to me is the fact a user who contribute full profile usually don't get a single positive vote (note : I don't talk about changing one name in a cast or any simple thing like that). When I was a contributor I did full audit for TV season set without getting a simple green and to be honest it's frustating when some people give them for a photo that is just a cut and paste job. |
