It's not even environmentally friendly. If they include extras it should be in HD, or not at all. And it should be on BD. "Combo releases" are worthless to me. I'm paying for Blu-ray, nothing else. Either way, I think we have all the right in the world to crave that the transfer will be, like I said, nothing else but reference quality. I think it was at TheDigitalBits where I read, that while no new extras are to e expected (Jackson is busy with The Hobbit), at least we will get those from both previous releases. | | Posted: | | | | I remember reading that the reason it has taken so long to come out with the Blu-Ray versions is that they wanted to make sure that the cut is in the best quality available.
I wasn't interested in the theatrical version so I never thought to check the quality of it but if it is outstanding, we can expect the extended cut to be the same or better. |

| | Posted: | | | | I find the discussion of the LOTR films interesting. I like the theatrical versions, and still own the first DVDs with them, as well as my preferred extended editions. I have the Blu-ray set of the theatrical versions and have ordered the Blu-ray set of the extended versions. We all seem to agree that the theatrical films were good (a few of us may not like them), but that the extended editions are better.
Yet when we discuss the first three Star Wars films made, we become polar opposites, disliking both the changes in plot details (Han shot first!) and finding little joy in the CGI enhancements. We want what was orginally shown in the theaters, not the rehashed versions.
The same oddness is found in our attitudes toward other revised films... preference for the revised versions of Blade Runner, dislike of the remade version of E.T.
