I'll wait for the Extended Editions on Blu-ray.  I don't see any reason for buying the theatrical versions.  I won't be surprised to see new extras on the Blu-ray theatricals.  Hopefully, these will appear on the EE Blu-rays.

According to Amazon.com the EE are scheduled for release in 2011 or 2012.

The extras I want to see are the Costa behind the scenes DVD's that he made during the shooting. He went around doing filming during the making of. Apparently he captured some interesting scenes of Jackson having a complete hissy fit over small things. But these will be edited out I'm sure.
I know people that have seen these, so I know they exist.

AIUI Jackson wants a 'proper' job done in mastering the movies in HiDef and to add some extras which is why the Extended versions are taking longer (so he has time to do the work) and the theatricals are being released to keep the "we want BluRay versions of these NOW" voices happy.

News today from Warner has the Hobbit put back till 2012. So that means possibly the extended editions will be in 2012.

So the world might have ended before we can get those so i guess the theatrical versions might be all we get
