Genre only changes are not allowed, per the rules, so I always vote 'no' on them.

Not strictly correct. Rules say "Do not make contributions that only change or re-order Genres, unless the existing Genre list is blatantly incorrect. "

Reading exactly what is written, to add a genre (this was the example I gave)  is not forbidden, so a no vote would be a violation of voting system.

what I've learned among other things from the topic Snatch or Snatch. is, that we also have "not much of a difference" as legitimate reasoning for no-votes.

It's not. Your 'Snatch.' contribution was correct, and those no-votes were not legitimate. For those that felt that they were: see what you've done? Apparently now no rules have to be followed anymore, because "nah, it's not much of a difference" is suddenly a legitimate excuse to vote against basically anything. I repeat what I said in that earlier thread: IMHO, something's either correct or incorrect per our rules, and if it's the latter, it needs to be fixed - no matter whether a few users don't deem the change important enough. People really need to stop voting according to their personal preference.

You are correct.  I should have re-read the rule before I posted.

I agree with the others concerning cast/role changes.  Correcting a single letter is a significant change and should never be voted down due to "not much of a difference".

Hell, I've seen extra spaces removed from roles and get 100% yes votes.

I think the reasoning behind what is said in the rules isn't necessarily to prevent contributions such as yours bbbbb, but to prevent people from changing one thing at a time in a profile over and over to pad their contribution numbers. I think it's more to help the screener's with their work load. If everyone just made super small contributions, they would always have a huge backlog of contributions to accept or decline.

With that said though, a correct contribution is a correct one...no matter how "insignificant" the change might be, it's still correct. Voting no for such a reason shouldn't be done. It's up to each contributer to take into consideration the screener's time when they do contributions, not the voters.

However - genres are highly subjective, and IMO the best cause of action is to leave them alone if you aren't correcting anything else.

And to add one, or change one as an only edit would be a suicide mission IMHO (if you weren't changing Alien from "Comedy" and "Romance" to "Science Ficiton" and "Horror" that is..  )

Significant value should be the key-word here!

In my personell opinion all correct changes/corrections are a benefit for the database. That some small corrections bring up work for the screeners and just little improvment is something else.
Contributions with bigger changes in good quality are always better, but improvment is improvment.

That's all a kind of work sharing.

But consider that there (hopefully) always be a point that the profiles are so good, so there just can be small impprovements.

I don't know if I agree. I see very little benefit when someone changes a dash to en em-dash. But then again, even if we were to agree that this particular change is of no benefit (and I know we won't), there would be countless discussions on what constitutes "significant value", so best let things be the way they are.

Yeah, the steady stream of submissions changing en-dashes to em-dashes and doing nothing else to the profile strikes me as a huge waste of the submitter's time to do them and mine to evaluate them.  I think these typographical features are just as useless as reordering the genres.

Ok, I think now I understand what you mean. Today I have to vote on contribution, where just "Booklet" was added to other features.

More than just changing a en-dash to em-dash, but enough?
Benefit and improvment for the profile?

I think it still depends on what is important for you.

Yep; as i said above, what is important to one will not be to another, but at least with a booklet it's usually 'a fact' rather than changing genres around which is preference.

Of course some booklets (like the one I got in a recent BFI release) are more worthy than others but I think we've had the "When is a booklet a booklet?" discussion (3 pages of advertising and a cast list? etc) a while ago and it was... difficult to resolve

If I voted what? What is against the rules? Yes or No?
Til now I didn't vote.

How do you know??
He didn't even say how (or if) he voted.
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

If the data being submitted is correct and not against the Rules, I vote "yes" no matter how trivial.
