Andf years later I still don't understand those that would prefer one giant profile for an entire Season ior Series (US), as opposed to more manageable bites of information per disc,. Why in Gods name would I want 40 Discs worth of cast / crew data for I Love Lucy: The Complete series in ONE profile, I know there are those that like that approach but it is completely irrational to me and always has been , nor do i comprehend what it would do for me to have 40 Discs in one Profile, Plus then duplicating that data data in the children.

Bottom line is my position is precisely where it was Three years ago and i don't see it changing. I have always used Child and grandchild profiles as that is the only thing that makes any sort of sense. I can even figure out what Features are on what disc instead of looking at one mammoth profile and trying to figure what Special Feature goes to what disc.

It all depends on what's important to you. For me, when I click on an actor's name, I don't want to see 40 occurrences of I Love Lucy. I want to see one occurrence per season.

I ahte to say it but that just seems bizarre to me. I want to be able to find EASILY which Episode(s) George reeves appeared in. One occurrence tells me NOTHING, except that somewhere he appeared in one or MORE episodes, which ones your method provides NOTHING. I have to wade through a mountain of data to find the data I am after. George as I recall appears only once, but if he appeared more than once, the problem would be compounded many times over, because your way would only give one response. Furthewr using both the mountain and the children seems to me to only inflate the data.

I can for example look up James Frawley and find that he appears in 21 different Profiles for Crew and I can then tell you what shows, Discs and episodes or movies. All you can produce is a based on my data is a lsit of 10 titles, that seems useless to me and from what I can tell the majority of users seem to agree. <scratching head> But different strokes for different folks.

Fortunately, both methods are contributable so both types of users can be happy.

I am sure I am in the extreme minority.. but personally if I click on Lucy's name I would want to see her name pop up for each episode not per season or per disc. But since that is not possible I will take the next best thing which for me would be per disc.

Ah. Well, I didn't consider that group of people.    OK, so some of us are happy: the season people and the disc people. Hopefully there will be a friendly way to get per-episode data in the future. In the meantime, you could create non-contributable manual profiles for each episode and attach them as grandchild profiles.

Yeah... I know I could... but with as many TV Series I have within my collection we are talking work that I could never get done on my own!  So I have just been sticking to disc level profiles.

Sorry, I should have quoted the full Rule:

"In rare cases where multiple Complete TV Series are packaged together, the Box-set rules can be applied, treating each series like a single film - applying the above rules for it’s individual profile."

So this actually DOES state what should be profiled as a child profile - each series.

Well, not precisely.  The rule still says "Box-set rules can be applied."  That sounds to me like it gives the user the choice rather than saying what SHOULD be profiled.

If it's not important to know what episode(s) an actor appears in, why do we bother to profile each episode?  Why not just show one long list of all the performers who worked in a given season/series?

When I'm looking for an actor, I'm generally looking to see what episode he may have been in, not just what season/series.  It's easier to find someone in disc-level profiles (say 4 epsodes on a disc) than in season/series- level (22-36 episodes per season/series).

It's not as big a problem with British or other TV shows which may only have a dozen (or less) episodes per season than it is with US shows, particularly in the early days (1950s) where a season consisted of 36 episodes.

It's not unimportant to know which episode(s) an actor appears in, I just personally don't want to see that info in the pop-up when I click someone's name. But that's just me. Both your way and my way are contributable so we should both be satisfied.

Yep...somebody is going to be dissatisfied.

You are correct. I was talking about normal sets, which I realize now is off-topic, so I'll leave it at that.

I may be mistaken, but I believe this is possible in the new 3.6 which is still in beta. If you use the episode dividers vs. Group dividers properly, when you click on an actor/actress, you can expand each individual profile to view each episode that person was credited in and for what role.

I've only played around with this feature a little bit, but that's how it seemed to work for me. But it could be that I'm misunderstanding this particular case being different in some way making this not possible.

This thread was not about what any of us would prefer, but about what the rules tell us to do. Sure, I'd like to have disc (and perhaps even episode) level profiles as much as you do, I just don't see how I can have them - other than manually - when I choose to follow the rules in this particular case. (Remember you can't have both child and grandchild profiles, as neither of those have UPCs in this particular set.)

I would love it to be both, so everyone is happy... Complete Series parent profile with child profiles of each Season and then each Season with child profiles of each disc - but where the seasons don't have individual EAN/UPCs at present this isn't possible as you would have to use the Disc ID to identify each Season and at the Disc level.

FWIW, in answer to your comment, I prefer profiling per Season rather than disc as that way when I apply collection number I can leave it blank for the 'parent'/Series profile and have one number per season which is how I count my collection - 1 number per film,1 per season of a TV series. To me, personally, that just seems more logical.
