rules say :"The term "Box Set" is used to define any release that includes more than one film." (bolding by me)

Then the very next paragraph states: "Create individual profiles for each movie in these Box Sets."  Since that's not possible in this situation, I'd argue that this is not technically classified as a "box set" by DVD Profiler terminology.

But that's really besides the point and dragging this thread off track.  Regardless of if it is or isn't, this is a clear case where dividers are to be used rather than creating a parent profile and linking that to single movie releases that are unrelated to the set of movies that is being contributed.  If doesn't really matter if the set is a "box set" or not.  The real question was if it should be submitted with dividers or not.

Thanks for bringing reason and common sense back to the thread.

I agree that this should be a single profile using dividers since on a single side of a disc and a number of entries in my collection would support this and it appears to be the only way to submit it to the on=line DB.

This discussion did make me think of one thing.  If you read the rules literally if you have a box set that contains multiple DVDs with each DVD having a different movie on each side it seems it should it be entered as:

Parent Box set-> Containing Disc 1: Side A profile + Disc 1: Side B profile + Disc 2: Side A profile + Disc 2: Side B profile

But most I see entered as:

Parent Box set-> Disc 1 with dividers for movies on A/B side + Disc 2 with dividers for movies on A/B side

Personally, I do it the way you suggested, as I agree with you on what the rules instruct us to do.

Reason and common sense ask to use Jean-Claude Forest, when everybody knows that this is his real name, but rules ask for Jean Claude Forest. You choose to follow rules (see the concerned thread).

Reason and common sense ask to use dividers for several movies on the same side of a DVD, and rules ask for a boxset. You choose to follow reason and common sense.

Where is consistency ?

In fact, I would like to use common sense in both cases, but I'm often told that common sense is not so common

I agree with you about consistency & would prefer it if we could be more consistent.

However, I think the difference here is that with the name, it CAN be entered correctly per the rules, this can't.

I think pretty much everyone would prefer it to be a box set but the program cannot presently have two profiles with the same disc ID and locality so it has to be a single profile and, as most agree, that's what we do in this situation

No, It has not to be a single profile . It has to be a box set as asked by rules, and unfortunately we have to keep that local because we cannot contribute. People do not want to derogate the rules when necessary, so we must accept the consequences of this rigid attitude.

...And if we accept to derogate in this case, why not derogate for Jean-Claude Forest ?

Fortunately, you are correct.  Most of us seem to understand the limitations in the program and are willing to work around them for the good of the community.  A profile with dividers is far better than an empty profile.

Wouldn't a profile of Barbarella with Jean-Claude Forest be far better than an empty profile, knowing that some people (me, for example), refuse to contribute profiles where rules oblige to enter false or stupid data. I have at present time a dozen of complete profiles that have never been contributed, and though Ken said he had many excellent contributors, I still wait for somebody else submitting them...

No, it wouldn't because a name entered incorrectly has an effect on every other profile through the CLT.  Beyond that, there is a difference between not being able to follow the rules, due to a program limitation, and not wanting to following the rules, because you don't like them.  There are plenty of rules I don't like but, when I contribute, I still follow them.  Once I have contributed, I change my data to suit my personal preference.

As to what Ken said, I have no doubt that there are many excellent contributors...I see new ones all the time...they just don't seem to be in your locality.  That is unfortunate, but it is a situation I can't fix.

Agreed.  If you have a complaint about the way a name is entered, there are better places to discuss it than this thread.

But you don't understand Surfeur.  He doesn't care how related his complaint is to any thread -- he just wants to shoot off his mouth about how he doesn't get his way so he's going to publicly pout about them.  Not that I'd dare call him a whiner, because he views that the same as calling someone a racist.

If you read carefully what I write, you'll see that my complaint is about the way people read rules: they say they must be strictly applied when they like them (I took an example in another thread), and they say they must not be applied when they do not like them : here, it IS a boxset, whatever you can say about the inability of the program to manage this rule.

Who cares if it's a box set or not? A valid question was asked and it had a very simple answer.  There's no reason to continue arguing semantics or dragging this thread off topic.  If you wish to get into a deeper discussion about how people interpret the rules, you're welcome to do so without me.
