Hi Skip,

I'm bewildered.  Perhaps it relates to how we are using DVD Profiler.  I'll attempt to explain my bewilderment.

My understanding of the initial post was that he desired to have a profile for his box set that included data for each individual disc.  I suggested that he add the profile for the box set and then to fill it out, he enter the individual blu-ray discs by "Title" and assign them as child profiles.  As he doesn't have a Blu-ray drive in his computer the Disc ID consideration is moot.

To further clarify; I recently created a "James Bond Films" profile and then assigned the Bond films that I have as child profiles.  This was to facilitate locating and cross-reference.  It works well for me.

Jim:

It sounds to me like what you did is simply created your own "Boxset" of James Bond films (note that these are also available as ACTUAL boxsets) and assigned the children two that. This is certainly doble, some of us do the same thing with various "sets" Star Trek, Star Wars...whatever. But in this case I believe he was referring to the ACTUAL Die Hard BD Boxset, thoug I could be mistaken. But there is absolutely nothing that prevents any user from setting up his own virtual boxsets locally, that IS after all the whole premise of the local database...taking the Online data and then customizing it to meet your particular criteria.

Hi Skip,

Cool!  I guess it was our perception of what his intent was that caused the confusion.

Unfortunately, as you know, he's in the "Contribution Discussion" forum where all the concerns expressed ARE valid.

Except that if it's Disc ID data we are after for BD, it makes no difference how many times or where he asks, it won't change anything. It's a well-known program limitation dating back to pre-Invelos (Intervocative) days and all that can be done is make him aware of it and tell him to wait and be patient.

(New User)

Just to make sure that I understand...

I scanned my boxed set "The Coen Brothers Movie Collection".
It was entered as one item with 5 discs, e.g. "Fargo", "Barton Fink", etc.

Deleted that and placed one disc in my DVD drive. It was recognized ("Blood Simple") and the complete collection was entered as before.

The individual discs have no UPC; there is only the one on the box for the set.

I certainly want the individual discs to be entered as items which can be found in the search and separately marked as watched, etc.
Am I stuck until this new version 3.5 is released? When might that be?

There was some mention of a "child profile", but I have no idea what that is, nor can I find it in the help.

If the boxset content doesn't have UPCs (which is mostly the case), you'd have to enter the content via Disc-ID.
First: enter the parent profile via UPC.
Second: Put the feature discs into your DVD-ROM drive (DVD-Profiler should run), if the disc is recognized the program offers you to download the profile.
Third: Via DVD-Profiler menu "Disc -> Change UPC" you can change the UPC to Disc-ID (if necessary).
DVD-Profiler handles all profiles alike wether they are stored with UPC or Disc-ID doesn't matter.

Fourth: For adressing child-profiles to the parent-profile do as follows:
Doubleclick on the parent-profile
The "edit profile window" opens
In the section "Box Set Content" you can adress already existing profiles to the parent profile.

Disc-ID is currently only possible for DVDs (not Blu-Rays). Full HD-Media support is expected to arrive with ver. 3.5.X (which is currently only available as a beta-version)
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

Yes, entered the box UPC, and it was added with 5 discs (the 5 films in the set).
Pop one disc into my DVD player.
You say "Profiler should run"-- how would I know?
You say "program offers" -- how?

I know that the program recognizes the DVD, because If I delete the main entry, and then click DVD > Scan DVD-ROM, it pops up a message "Inserted DVD Recognized; Add "The Coen Brothers Movie Collection" to your collection?" If I click Yes, the 5-disc set is added.

If you are R1 user USA, you have to do nothing then to double click the title: The Coen Brothers Movie Collection UPC: 027616093554
In edit profile windows select on the lefthand: Box Sets Content
Search there in the title list those 5 titles you just aded
and assign them, they should move to the right column.

If you are a user other than R1 USA, edit every title to match your locality
and change if needed the disc-id to match yours:
Put the dvd in your drive:
select the title of that dvd.
    DVD Profiler menu:
    DVD
    Change UPC
[v] mark the box Use disc ID from inserted disc

All the disc-id are in the Box: item, so it only recognises the box and not the individual titles.

Ok, you've added the Box Set Parent profile with the UPC. Now, in DVD Profiler, on the top menu: DVD> Add to Collection. In the Add to Owned dialoge box, select the Add Inserted Disc tab. Now, insert the first Disc of the set into your DVD-ROM drive and the title, if DVD Profiler recognizes the Disc, should pop up. Select Add DVD and the personalize window should open and you can add info there. Do this for each of the Discs. When they are all listed in the Pending Additions window to the right, click on Add Now to Owned. All of the titles will now be added to your collection. Next step is to locate the Box Set parent profile and double click the title to enter Edit mode. Select Box Set Contents from the list on the left. In the search fielf at the bottem type the titles of the discs that you just added to your collection and Assign them to the Box Set parent. When you've added all the titles click OK. Hope this is clear.

If you're talking about what i think you are then it is a much requested feature that when you add a boxset the program automatically also downloads all the contents as well... but at present it doeasn't. It may KNOW what those contents are (Preview the box set profile and it's bottom right somewhere) but you have to download each one individually and add them manually in your local collection.

I guess that I was not clear on this point. Popping any of the 5 discs into the drive always brings up the title of the whole box set, and all five discs get added.

If you want each individual profile to come up, now. You have to download those individual titles as explained. See if the disc-id matches with your dvd? If not change the disc-id for each title to your disc-id. Then each individual profile will come up if you put the dvd in your computer.
