Just noticed that one of my contributions http://www.invelos.com/Forums.aspx?task=viewtopic&topicID=116998&PageNum=LAST was declined with the reason given: An invalid source, such as a third party database, was listed in the contribution notes. Use of a third party database is not allowed per the contribution rules.

Did I do something wrong (e.g. maybe not enough sources for the birth year? is there a minimum?) or is this perhaps a mistake by the screeners?

Does anybody have any idea, and how can I ask the screeners if something like this happens?

I've had a look and I don't think you have done anything wrong. I think a screener (or maybe some automatic filter) has had a 'knee-jerk' reaction to the word 'imdb' in your contribution. It's there as a source for your BY contribution.

I've had some things declined in the past because I've mentioned IMDB in the notes. (Even when I specifically say that I'm replacing information that seems to be taken from IMDB).

I think it's probably that.

Try resubmitting and I'll bet it goes through the second time.

Another thought. Try sesubmitting without the BY change so that all the other corrections go through. Then, when that first contribution is approved, resubmit just the BY change with your source information. New BY contributions automatically go through to some sort of second-level review process and that might be making it complicated to get the rest f your contribution approved.

Yeah, if you type "IMDB" anywhere in your notes, I think it will auto decline. Even if you type "Note: I didn't use IMDB".
99.9% of all cat plans consist only of "Step 1."

wondering if the screeners are more interested in the actor Richard Wright, rather than the 'musician' who isn't in any Movies ......

I don't think this is the case at all... I have used IMDB (saying I am replacing IMDB data, Using them as an additional source for birth years and such... several different ways of using IMDB) in contribution notes on many occasions and they always went through without any problem what so ever.

This could be more likely the case if the musician isn't on any DVD releases. Because if this is someone that isn't in the credits of any of DVD release... the birth year wouldn't be needed until that changes.

I don't think so, I've plenty of contributions where one of the sources was IMDB and those were not declined.

Another thing to check... this decline reason is used a lot of times when there is undocumented Uncredited Cast. Check to see if there is any uncredited cast. If there is you need to let them know how you know they are there.

And then I would not have the need to add it...
In this case I own the TV series 'Buck Rogers in the 25th Century', with the actor, and 'The Making of The Dark Side of the Moon', with the musician.

No uncredited cast anywhere in this contribution...

I had some cover scans declined for the same generic reason a little bit ago, just had to laugh. Third party? I guess so... there's me, the cover and the scan of the cover.

It is sounding more and more like a mistake to me then. After all the screeners are only human too. And Gerri herself has said in the past that the approve and decline button are right next to each other. So it is easy to hit the wrong one by accident.

I would try to resubmit.

If you want to be sure... you could always open a support ticket. I did that not too long ago when I was adding cover images to a profile that had none at all. And they replied it was their error... but they had caught it so it would be going through despite the fact that it said declined on my side.

I'll happily assume in your case this was indeed an error but they may use that generic reason if they think the cover has come from a site that has put watermarks on
