I recently discovered a large number of recent titles in my collection which were listed as widescreen but not anamorphic (standard DVDs). I was baffled as I have profiles that are 4X3 tagged for replacement and these were not tagged. This is something I pay close attention to. I spent a considerable amount of time correcting this. I gave up rechecking each disc after about 30 and just assumed that recent widescreen titles were, in fact, 16X9.
I previewed my latest weekly update and spot checked several recent additions and noticed that the updates were incorrectly described as not being anamorphic.
Could someone please fill me in as to what's going on. It's hard to believe that there could be this many oversights.

A bunch of dvd profiles that had to be PAL 16:9 anamorphic were sundely NTSC 16:9 not anamorphic.

After today's update I verified and contributed corrections for the following DVDs: Robin Hood: Unrated Director's Cut, Ramona and Beezus, On the Beach, Madame Bovary: World Films, Henry & June and five more titles. As I just went through and made corrections to all (or almost all) profiles several weeks ago
I believe these were updated today. I disallowed some updates before I realized the scope of the problem. I believe the A-Team was one I rejected.

Edit: I just checked Contributions and noticed that there were 3 No votes for "On the Beach" I rechecked and sure enough it's 4X3 widescreen. I neglected to flag it for replacement as it has a 1.66 aspect ratio and decided I'd live with it. Got some sharp people checking contributions! | | | | Last edited: by jfrench |

I think many contributors of new profiles do not know that anamorphic is the norm, rather than the exception for widescreen DVD's, and don't spot the information on the dvd cover (often in very light gray on a white background if noted at all).
Actually, it would be better if the checkbox worked the other way around, and would need to be checked for non-anamorphic, or alternatively if it would be checked by default for anamorphic. | | | | Hans |

And certainly not inolvedin the oriinal release of Awakenings.
