Good day, Sirs,

what I've learned among other things from the topic Snatch or Snatch. is, that we also have "not much of a difference" as legitimate reasoning for no-votes.

Now unfortunately I found that minor error in a cast list, a wrongly spelled role name.

To avoid no-votes already in the run-up: is the correction difference enough to contribute?

Love, bbbab

It's not. Your 'Snatch.' contribution was correct, and those no-votes were not legitimate. For those that felt that they were: see what you've done? Apparently now no rules have to be followed anymore, because "nah, it's not much of a difference" is suddenly a legitimate excuse to vote against basically anything. I repeat what I said in that earlier thread: IMHO, something's either correct or incorrect per our rules, and if it's the latter, it needs to be fixed - no matter whether a few users don't deem the change important enough. People really need to stop voting according to their personal preference.

Agreed. No correction is too small IMO. A correction  is a correction, whether it's a small difference or not.

I also agree with Tim on this.

I know that the rules has a line that says...

Quote:
Make sure your contributions add significant value to the database. For example, contributions that only re-order the information within a certain section should not be submitted. These unnecessary changes are highlighted in the rules. Please do not make a separate contribution for them; however, they may be acceptable if you are making wider corrections to a profile.

And I think this is what the no votes are referring to. But who is to say what is "significant"? In my opinion adding correct/accurate info per rules to even a single field is significant.

That rule really don't define significant... but does give the example or re-ordering the information that is in a field. So that is what I go by. Re-ordering information is not significant. But adding currect/accurate info that is not there yet (even to a single field)... that sounds significant to me. and is enough to contribute without any larger update. If not we could go years without that correct/accurate info before someone can find something else to add so that they can fill the field that is missing currect/accurate info.

Those who voted No against Snatch were WRONG, period. There is rationalization but no justification. Fix the error in Cast and resubmit Snatch.

More importantly than people not voting personal preferences, screeners need to pay attention to notes, there is much bad data that the screeners are allowing these days, simply based on the majority. As I have said many times, I don't care what any majority has to say, if a SINGLE no vote is cast and it is legitimate, then the Contribution should be declined. Bad data is bad data, i don't are how many people say yes. It also tells users, as Tim noted, that a given Rule is not valid and this will have ripple effect throughout the system.

I fix minor errors all the time and have yet to get a 'no' vote on them.

Another in agreement; really the line "Make sure your contributions add significant value to the database." ahould be more strictly defined or removed altogether (the "don't just change this one thing" details are already elsewhere in the Rules) because one person's "not adding significant value" is bound to be anothers "getting it right is important however small the change".
It is dangerous to be right in matters where established men are wrong

I'm not sure I agree with the majority here. When I see, on one hand, many  contributions to add things such "Romance" to the genre list of a science-fiction movie with a love affair, and, on another hand, profiles where cast list is empty, I'm not sure that the time of users is used in the best way for the community. Contributions scores increase, interest of the data not so much. But of course anybody may use his time as he prefers...

So, bbbb, let your gut feeling decide if you deem it significant enough and then contribute or don't.

And btw: If you had simply contributed it you probably would have spent less time than coming here and asking for permission - even if it would be denied....

Genre only changes are not allowed, per the rules, so I always vote 'no' on them.  A correction to an actor name or role, studio, audio track, etc., is an improvement in my opinion.  If I own a film with an empty profile, I will fix it, but I will also correct errors I find in complete profiles.  Both, in my opinion, is time well spent.

Edit: I should point out that, other than new releases, I don't see very many empty profiles so my opinion is colored by that little fact.
