Does this in the credits constitute an writer's credit or not?

I removed Ernest Hemingway's OMB credit regardless of the fact he wrote the story the movie was based on i don't think this is an actual profiler credit

Edit: if you can't see the image (as some don't, here's the link... http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film4/blu-ray_reviews_61/the_killers_blu-ray_/title_ff_the_killers_blu-ray_.jpg

I may be being dumb here, but is there a credit for him in the crawl? If there is then he should have the OMB credit.

No, this is the only time his name appears in the credits.

So then he is mentioned in the credits? I am talking about the disc credits not just the profile.

Well, the screen shows you how he is 'credited'. the opening credits read Ernest Hemingway's The Killers, i don't think that is, or should be for profiler purposes an OMB credit.

Apart from this he is not credited anywhere else.

Can't tell which version you are questioning as the image in your post shows as unavailable.

From the 1946 version with Burt Lancaster:

Based on logic - OMB
Based on the rules - no credit

We shouldn't bend the rules, should we?

For what 's worth: there are many James Bond films (after they ran out of novels) where Ian Fleming's only credit reads "Ian Fleming's James Bond". Not that that's an answer to the question, but those credits seem to be entered quite a lot...

Well, either that's correct and i have to amend my contribution, or this is not correct and eventually these have to be removed...

We know it's based on an Ernest Hemingway story. His name is in the credits. I would go with common sense on stuff like this even if it bends the rules.

We bend the rules all the time, otherwise "A Film by" credit wouldn't qualify as Director.

As has been often repeated (but not enough it seems), the rules can and will never cover every possible variation of film credits.

There is a difference. "A Film by" is unambigous. "Ernest Hemingway's" doesn't in itself tell us what his contribution was. We may know that he wrote the story. If not, we may guess it means that he wrote it, since both producer and director are credited. But the credit in itself doesn't say it.

That said, I still think that this is a case for bending the rule.
