I want to replace these covers

for these ones

I know they're not the best of color, but I didn't expect to get this:

You should check the notes. Was the person who voted no the one who submitted the old covers?

Is that really necessary?

While I would not vote no on these I can understand why someone would.

To me looking at it it is a trade off between scans with compression artifacts and unclear text but better colors vs a lot clear text/details but really washed out colors and faded.

I would just update the notes and point out why you think the new scans are better (Can read text and less compression artifacts) and see what happened.

And lock your local if you like better.

To be honest I am not sure how I would vote... because I agree with this. One set of scans is bad to the extreme in one aspect and the other scans is bad to the extreme in another aspect.

These are not the images from the database, you scaled the original images up from 200 x 276 to 463 x 642.

True. They aren't the best of color. Thanks for your point of view and your advice!

You should download a tool like GIMP, or some other free image program.

I used the Auto White Balance feature to get these:

It didn't do much good for the rear, but the front is much better IMO.
