Unable to load database: Portable Network Graphics format handler error / Windows 10

After spending several weeks updating my collection, I ran a full repair of my database before making a backup with the "Check database files for errors" checked." I closed DVD Profiler and tried opening my database but am now encountering the following ever time:

"The following error occurred while attempting to open the database:
Portable Network Graphics format handler error
Can't read the PNG image, it has corrupted data."

I also receive this same error message when I try restoring from the most recent backup. I have tried creating a new database and copying the existing database as well as selectively restoring from the most recent backup by restoring just the profiles without cover scans or cast/crew databases, but I can't get any of the profiles to even display upon "successful" restore (only collection totals across categories). I have tried running the Database Repair Utility with a full repair, but it doesn't fix the error message. I am stumped about what could have caused this, what the error means, and how to fix it. I really don't want to lose my most recent changes by reverting to an old backup.

Please help!

Hmm, now this is strange... I tried restoring from my older backup, which I know is good, and am getting the same exact error message. The good news is, I suppose this means it's not my database or recent backup that's corrupted. Could this error message be because I'm running Windows 10? I'm logged in as a Standard account, but give the program admin access. I read on another thread to try reinstalling the program without plugins. I will give that a try.

Crisis averted! 

Uninstalling, then reinstalling without plugins enabled has eliminated the error message. I also moved the default database and associated files from my admin account to my user account even though I'm still running the program as an admin from my user account, and everything's now back to normal.

Yeah, plugins sometimes seem to be causing issues on Windows 10. I went through a similar process.

As a plugin author, I would want to know whenever my software causes problems. I'm sure the other authors feel the same way. Either a post in the relevant Forum thread, or a PM would give the author a chance to fix it and perhaps save other users from the same trouble. Hope it wasn't one of my plugins, but if it was ... please let me know ASAP, and accept my apologies.

Don't worry, mediadogg. I actually hadn't installed any additional plug-ins beyond the default ones when I started seeing the error message. My sense is that the problem is not related to any particular plug-in (except the default ones perhaps!), but the way the plug-in architecture is loaded and/or used by Windows 10. However, that's just a guess based on my experience. Hopefully a future update will fix any issues like this, as it would be nice to be able to load plug-ins without causing problems for the program on Windows 10.

I don't think these problems are connected to any specific plugin in particular, judging by what I can recall from my earlier problems with DVDP after I upgraded to Windows 10.

It was like the OP said: a reinstall without plugins fixed my issues.

So I concur with his assessment just above this post. My problems were different, but the solution was the same.
