I know that Special Effects Coordinator only is a valid credit when there is no Special Effects Supervisor credit.
Does this rule apply when there is credit for a Special Effects Coordinator in the normal credits and a credit for a Special Effects Supervisor under a company name
i.e. Visual Effects by xyz Company
Special Effects Supervisor - John Doe

Who gets a credit?
Think different

Everything will be okay in the end. If it's not okay, it's not the end.

My take would be that in this case the Coordinator worked on the film in a general sense. Whereas the Supervisor worked for the Visual Effects Company.

In this case I would say that both get credited since one worked for the film and the other worked for a company.

While I sympathize with CubbyUps' position, the contribution rules stipulate that a special effects coordinator can only be contributed if no supervisor is listed anywhere in the credits (bolded by me). "Anywhere" includes "below a company divider", I would think.

Therefore, only the supervisor can be contributed (unfortunately).

As dee1959jay said... rules do say anywhere in credits... so can't contribute both.

Then the wording of the rules need to be changed.  This is a known fault in the rules.  It should say in the main credits.

Whether it should say it or not is debatable... but it don't say it. As long as it is worded the way it is both can not be contributed per the rules.

I am trying to remember whether or not this wording was added before or after the addition of the dividers.

If before, it is unfortunate that it wasn't changed, because it most certainly should have been.
If it was after, then it was a very poor choice of words because this is certainly not what was intended.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once.
We will teach it to them again.
Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.

So per the rules if a Company is doing miniature effects for a film and it has a SFX Supervisor credit, it cancels out the SFX Coordinator listed in the main crew credits.

Blindly following rules with no thought or analysis is against the whole spirit of even having a program and database like DVD Profiler.

But that seems to be what most people want.

Go figure.

I think I made it quite clear that this is NOT what I want. It is however what the rules in their current form say.

EDIT: Our fellow user CharlieM has now opened a discussion thread in the Contribution Rules Committee to change the current rule, and he has my full support in doing so. So there.
