Hello all,

I just started using the desktop yesterday and i chose to use the online storage for the time being.  I would really like to use the local storage and sync with the local database.  It looks like i am going to have to open up a port on my Cisco device.  I have NO clue how this is done.  Any one here that can walk me through this?  The desktop software says it can't communicate with the software from the internet so it seems like a port should be blocking it right?

Also, i was curious what the pros and cons are for using the online sync over a local sync?  One thing i noticed right off the bat about the online storage that is nice is that if i make a mistake in my desktop software i can just sync and download from the cloud and all is fixed.

If I understand you correctly, you have either iOS or Android version currently synched to the Online, but you would like to start using the Desktop version and switch to syncing with your local copy, even while away from your home network?

If this is true, I would suggest first getting it to work on your home network, over Wi-fi. You might still need to open up a port, but at least it will be safer while you get things working.

For instructions for messing with the port, please say which model of Cisco Router you have. Maybe somebody with that exact item will give some specific instructions.
Thanks for your support.

I am actually using the desktop on my work network and we only have  a wired network.  No wi-fi.  Would it just be easier to use the online since i don't have wifi?

Wait, if you have no wifi, how is your iPhone/Android connected? Directly to the internet? Then the local sync can't work because your iPhone/Android has to be connected to your home-network for that.

I think what he wants to do is open the DVDP port to the internet. Not something I would personally want to to, but it is possible, and with a high speed WAN, it should be quite fast enough.

Actually, I have done this for a Webcam I use to watch the house while traveling. Just a matter of setting up "port forwarding" in your router. I don't have a Cisco. If I did, I would Google "setting up port forwarding Cisco SA 520".

You probably also have to do the same in your Windows and/or anti-virus Firewall.
