I am new to DVD Profiler and bought the PC version and iOS version. I scanned a few DVDs with my phone for practice and have a small list already started. I will probably start over with a fresh list.

Here’s where I’m at and would like some directions.

I own a Sony 400 disc player with disks in slots 1-373. I have stacked up all of the DVD cases in the exact order they are in the slots of the DVD player. I want to start scanning the UPCs in that order but have a couple questions.

What is the difference between slots and Collection #? If I start fresh and scan in order from 1-400, will the collection # automatically generate for each corresponding slot? I have a few box sets and fear the UPC will only log 1 Collection # and miss the corresponding slots. Is this correct? If so, how can I keep the slot # and collection # the same?

I don't see a slot location on the iOS version. If I scan all the boxes with my iOS version, can I sync the iOS database with the PC version and then go in and manually put in the slot locations?

Could the coloection # = the slot # most of the time except when there is a DVD title with multiple discs?

MY collection number is self explanatory  .... I have 612  'collection titles'  out of my 1500+  Movie titles .. these other  1000 titles are titles in which I never bought or paid $  for ..... ,

The 1000  plus titles therefore don't have any jackets or cases to go into..  so they have been placed into  nine sized stlyed cd/dvd  cases or  holders .. Each of these holders are lettered , and the titles are numbered .,,using location and slot under personalized  i.e. Location  Case 3 /  slot 198  .. these titles  are cataloged and easy to find ..  All titles from my early days ( 1997) to present have been marked for purchase date  none have been missed . .therefore  using reassign collection numbers under purchase dates will always keep the numbers in sequence  even if you remove a title and create a gap that gap will close when reassigning  and partial reassignment will bring the titles back to zero ..

even using my IOS version it is easy to find and locate a said title within seconds as I am locating a certain title..

Would you suggest I scan the barcodes with my iPhone or invest in a PC barcode scanner? Can you recommend one on Amazon or Newegg or eBay if that's the way to go?

I will of course edit my database on the PC but is building the database on my iOS version with my iPhone not good?

I'll try the input route on my PC. I have 2 little kids and time for about 20 per day if I'm lucky.

The funny part about my Sony 400 disc player is that it's broke and won't play the discs for some reason. I use it to store the DVDs and I keep the boxes stored in a giant box. I even bought a 200 disc CD player for $30 on Craigslist just to store my TV series box sets so I can store them and access them while keeping the boxes put up and out of sight.

For the same reason that people use shelves and binders - to organize the discs for access. A 400 disc changer can store them more compactly than on shelves, and oh by the way - can play them also! Different strokes for different folks, as they say.
