These two questions do relate, but the first one I'm going to ask is about manual profiles. I know that you can make one by entering "M" into the UPC code box but is there a way to start a manual one from scratch? I was trying to do so from both the program itself and the "Add DVD to Collection" screen where you click on the "download from Invelos" button to create a new profile. The UPC box in the 2nd option does not accept "M" as an option. I ended up making up an UPC and then changing it when I downloaded the profile.

The 2nd set of questions have to do with Bones season 4. (I have UPC: 024543597629). The first disc of this profile was also released with season 3, which took place during the writer's strike. To make s. 3 bigger, they added the first 4 episodes of season 4 to the release of season 3. However, they reused the disc id in the release of season 4. In other words, disc 5 of s. 3 and disc 1 of s. 4 are the same in Profiler because they share a disc ID.

I know that first in is what we stick with which is why I created a manual profile for Disc 1 for my profiler as you can't have the same disc ID as an identifier for 2 profiles, even if the title is different.

My first question here is, why can't disc 5 of season 3 be added as a child profile to season 4? The same episodes, same disc ID? Also, as it stands, Season 4 looks like there are only 6 discs instead of the 7 it actually has. The first four episodes are not profiled in Season 4 anywhere, not even the parent profile where disc ID doesn't matter. These are not added as a bonus disc in season 4, it is the first disc of the set and if you look at the liner notes, these episodes are listed first. The DVD itself lists them as Episodes 1-4.

So I guess, my next questions are: 1) Even if you can't add disc 1 (or disc 5, however you want to look at it,) shouldn't episodes 1-4 be added to at least the parent profile? This way if you have season 3, you can still have all the episodes listed if you don't want to create a manual profile for season 4.

2)Shouldn't the child profiles from season 4 be relabeled as right now there discs 1-6, but really they should be all moved down one? (disc 1 into disc 2)?

3)And shouldn't the child profile episode numbers also be adjusted by 3 (they combined the first two episodes into one show) even without disc 1?

I guess I'm not sure of the rules here, if there is a reason that child profile is not allowed to be added to S. 4 (though other child ids are often in many box sets) and why the counting ignores the first 4 episodes of the season. I know bonus episodes are usually ignored, but since these are legitimately part of season 4, I think they should be included.

Thoughts? (thanks for making it this far!)

1) Unfortunately because it is first come first server as far as releases go, you might not be able to get away with attaching the last disc to S3 to S4 and contributing it.  But no matter what you can keep that local.

It seems to me you have two choices here

a) Detach the last disc in S3 and attach it to S4, change the title and lock it, and don't contribute it.  Keeping the changes local

b) Create a manual profile for S4 Disc 1, attach it to S4 and copy the contents the last disc of S3 to it.

2) As far as the "Disc" labels on the profiles (naming them 2-6).  Well that depends on what the disc label is.  The section of the profile that says "Disc XX" should be based on what is on the physical disc.  I assume this is because they could not contribute disc 1.  However this is something you can contribute if the title does not reflect what is on the disc label.

OK I must say I am confused. I collect bones. And bought seasons 3 and 4 when they were first released. And the last disc of season 3 is not also in the season 4 set.

Last disc of Season 3 has...

The Yanks in the UK (4.1 & 4.2)
The Man in the Outhouse (4.3)
The Finger in the Nest (4.4)

First disc of Season 4 has...

The Perfect Pieces in the Purple Pond (4.5)
The Crank in the Shaft (4.6)
The He in the She (4.7)
The Skull in the Sculpture (4.8)

I even pulled the sets to see if I had an extra disc in season 4 set and I didn't. So something seems weird here anyway.

Yupp.

1) Open the "Add DVD ..." dialogue
2) Tab "Add by title..." and type a title of your choice
3) Unflag "Download from Invelos"
4) Click "Add to collection"

You will now have a brand-new manual profile named M1
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

Mine are just like Pete's.

The first four episodes of Season 4 are on Disc Five of Season 3.

However, Disc 1 of Season Four starts with what was actually episode 5 of Season 4, "The Perfect Pieces in the Purple Pond".

There are only 6 discs in my Season 4 set (the first four episodes of the season are NOT included), so there is no duplication of the first four episodes.

I've already changed my profile and knew that I'd keep my disc 1 local. It's a big failing in the program that's already been addressed by many people that we can't have both discs in the program, even though they are attached to two different profiles.

Thanks for how to make a manual profile. Never thought to try by title. I tried UPC and then I tried by disc ID but of course, I didn't try by title!

My season 3 has disc 5 being the first four episodes of season 4. (that's the Yanks in the U.K. Part 1 and 2, The Man in the Outhouse and The Finger in the Nest.) My season four has disc 1 being those same episodes. The disc itself reads disc 1 (the other discs are disc 2-7).

In other words, my s. 3 has 5 discs. Discs 1-4 are all season 3 episodes. Disc 5 has the first four episodes of season 4.

The season 4 release has 7 discs. The first disc (and it's labeled disc 1) has the same four episodes on it but is completely missing from the profile. No disc and the next 6 discs are all mislabeled being one off from what it actually is (the same with the episode numbering, though that is 3 off as Yanks in the U.K. is put together as one episode on the discs). So disc 2 is labeled disc 1, even though the actual disc itself is labeled disc 2). The first four episodes are also not profiled in the Parent profile.

Season 3 upc: 024543526025 (5 discs) and Season 4: 024543597629 (7 discs). Are yours the same UPCs?

I am on my way out the door, but later tonight I'll post pictures so you can see exactly what I have.

But, with this information, can I at least add the first 4 episodes' cast and crew list to the parent profile? How about relabeling the child profiles correctly?

Thanks.

I wouldn't change anything from how it is now in the online. In the very least I would say you have some sort of re-release of the set that later included the disc (as I got mine when released)... or something else weird happened with your set.... as I haven't seen anyone else say anything about getting this disc in their season 4 set. And even if it is a re-release the info must stay with original release per rules.

I know I for one would have to vote no to any such change.

Yes it is a re-release, "The Complete Season Four" instead of "Season Four". This is the release I have.

Thanks for the confirmation... so any changes must be kept local.

Ok, that makes sense. The covers look the same so I had no idea it was a re-release. Thanks for all the help in figuring this out!

@hal9g-your inner cover is totally different from mine, so definitely different releases!
