As it is that time of year, I just wanted to say why I wear a poppy...

I wear one, because my Grandfather was at Dunkirk, Afghanistan, India and many other places.
I wear one, because he came back, and told me the funny stories.
I wear one, because he came back, and never told me the stories perhaps I should of heard.
I wear one, because he knew people that didn't.
I wear one, because he is no longer with us.

I wear one for all the soldiers, as even if we disagree with the "why" of what they are doing, they still do it. And they still die.

I wear one, because I am alive.

I wear one, not because I am pro British, or Pro war, I am most certainly not pro war!

I wear one.

Santayana is known for famous sayings, such as "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it",[2] and "[O]nly the dead have seen the end of war."
also "The wisest mind has something yet to learn. "

I guess humans just are not very wise.

For all my 79+ years I have been very lucky, to young for WWII, college for Korean, to working at an air base Vietnam.

Blame, to me seems to be humans biggest problem, were always blaming someone when maybe we ought check out ourselves.
We don't need stinkin' IMDB's errors, we make our own.

While I understand and respect your other reasons to wear a poppy, the quoted part is the reason why in fact it shouldn't be worn. Or in other words: War is when poor people fight and die for the interests of the rich.
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

Similar sentiments here. My Dad and his brothers all were in WWII and came back, thankfully. I was lucky to just miss being drafted for Vietnam (was getting my physical the day RFK was shot).

I won't live to see it, but I hope that MAN someday overcomes his propensity to inflict WAR on himself.
