Just select the child profile, right-click and select Remove from collection...

Yea, I had the same question.

I think we are having trouble figuring out what you are doing when you run into this problem.  If i am viewing as a List and want to check for children i select a potential parent then click Ctrl-F12.

If a child is found i get a dialog box offering to add it to my database.  The buttons i can select are Yes and No.  If i click Yes the profile is added as a child but not opened.

At no point in this sequence is Remove from Collection an option, hindrance or required.

So what sequence of steps are you following to get to where you are having the problem?

But it could. If so, whether the list of profiles is showing all child profiles or only parent profiles at start-up, can be set by the user. Change in Tools -> Display -> Auto-expand box sets the option to your liking/

OK, so let me get this straight: You want to actually remove the children from the collection, have them gone for good with all their data?

Simple: Expand the box set using the + sign. Now select the first child and press the Space bar. Flag all child profiles that way.

Now select Collection -> Flagged -> Remove

It is good to keep in mind:
If you delete the parent profile (=box set), you delete all child profiles that are associated with it; if there are some you want to keep separately, take Lewis_Prothero's post just above this one to save these first.
If you delete any child profile you will NOT delete the parent profile, it remains in your database. Only the child is permanently removed, either step-by-step (as I wrote initially) or a bunch at the time (as DJ Doena wrote). Just be sure to select the child and not the parent profile...

Two cautions:
Before you begin, or perhaps experiment, I'd suggest you make a full back-up of your database. So, if you make mistakes, or in a few days or weeks regret all or some removals, you can restore what you had in a few clicks.
Also, if you perhaps have data stored in a child profile that is not in the parent, you can copy that data to the parent (before you start the removal of course). Select first the child profile and via the menu DVD -> Copy, then select the parent and via the menu DVD -> Paste and select the items you want to keep.
