| Posted: | | | | Hey! I've been using DVD Profiler for some months now and I love it! So far I've been adding my movies very quickly with little attention to detail such as locality, however I recently began making some changes to my collection. While doing this I've been prompted to contribute my changes to the online database. I've always seen this as a complicated process due to the ruleset, so I've been avoiding it for the most part. However, if everyone thought as I did, I'd have a harder time maintaining my collection, so I thought I could try contributing some. That made me think of some questions.
* I have a couple of titles at hand right now, Dexter season 6 on DVD and 21 Jump Street (2012) on DVD, with UPC's that aren't available in the online db. What method does people usually use when adding a new locality, i.e. how could I effectively contribute these titles?
* Somewhat related to the previous question, some movies share the same UPC across Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark. While adding Devil's Advocate (Blu-ray) to my collection I found that there were no Norwegian profile, although a Finnish profile existed on that UPC. I used that as reference and changed the Rating, Overview and added cover scans. Is this acceptable?
* I have some DVDs that have been distributed regionally without UPC. They aren't pirated or similar, but serious productions on a very small scale. Are such releases significant enough for contribution?
* Lastly, I'm very picky about titles. I particularly do not like localized titles and using ` instead of '. Example on localization: "The Whole Nine Yards" is "Full Pakke" in Norwegian, and have been contributed with the Norwegian title instead of the English title. Example on `/': The contributed title for my Blu-ray UPC of "Jennifer's Body: Unrated" is typed as "Jennifer´s Body: Unrated". I'm going to make changes to these titles locally, should I submit the changes?
Thanks! | | | TV set: SONY KDL-52NX800 BD/DVD-player: LG BH8220BN 5.1 Collection: 801+ |

You can use the Finnish profile as a starting point and change the locality via DVD->Change Locality... And before you contribute change everything, so that it will match your Norwegian release. There is a title field (where the title on the cover is to be entered, usually the localized) and an original title field for each profile. And in the settings you can change, that the original title is used for the collection list. Sadly DVD Profiler only supports one sort title, so if you switch to this view permanently, you should adjust your sort titles accordingly. Sort titles are local only and are not included in a submission. "Jennifer´s Body: Unrated" is wrong and you can submit it as "Jennifer's Body: Unrated". I also am picky about the usage of "´". I don't like it.

If the norvegian title is the title use on the cover yes, but if the english title is on the cover no. |

| Posted: | | | | Oh okay, so titles are supposed to be submitted with the translated title, with the original title in that field? Thanks for the heads up on sort title. I dislike translated titles, so at least I can avoid them locally.
I'll start changing titles that uses ` to ' and upload the changes.
Since my UPC's of Dexter season 6 and 21 Jump Street doesn't have a Nordic counterpart, should I clone another release (in case yes; which country?) or create a whole new profile and add everything manually? | | | TV set: SONY KDL-52NX800 BD/DVD-player: LG BH8220BN 5.1 Collection: 801+ |

I would create a whole new profile and only copy cast and crew (if these have been taken from credits. See contribution notes of the other profile).

I would create a whole new profile and only copy cast and crew (if these have been taken from credits. See contribution notes of the other profile). Why? I assume that way he makes sure everything he contributes and some bad data from the other profile doesn't sneak through? I'm not familiar with European discs, but I assume that since it has the same UPC that it is distributed by the same company? Are they usually the same Disc in different packaging? | | | HDTV: 52" Toshiba Regza 52XV545U AVR: Onkyo TR-707 Speakers: Paradigm Monitor 7 v6, CC-190 & Atom Monitors Subwoofer: Definitive Technology ProSub 800 BD/DVD: Oppo BDP-93 (Region Free) HD PVR: Motorola DXC3400 500GB w/ 1TB Expander BD/DVD/Game: 250GB PS3 Slim DVD/Game: 250GB XBox 360 Elite Special Edition (Black) Game: Wii Remote: Logitech Harmony One w/ PS3 Adapter WHS: Acer H341 Windows Home Server |

| Posted: | | | | Many Norwegian, Swedish, Finnish and Danish releases share the same UPC. Movie summaries in each language and country specific ratings are written on the backside. Also some covers have localized titles, but for the most part, to my knowledge, the releases are identical in each country.
Where can I read contribution notes of a profile? From within DVD Profiler I could only find profile links. Also how is it possible to copy cast & crew? I added the UK profile for Dexter Season 6 DVD and it looks to be very thorough with episode-by-episode credits and individual profiles for each DVDs. | | | TV set: SONY KDL-52NX800 BD/DVD-player: LG BH8220BN 5.1 Collection: 801+ |

Click that then goto the profile you want to copy it to and under DVD there is Paste. It then will come up with a box where you can choose what to copy over. You can also past to multiple Flagged profiles as well. | | | HDTV: 52" Toshiba Regza 52XV545U AVR: Onkyo TR-707 Speakers: Paradigm Monitor 7 v6, CC-190 & Atom Monitors Subwoofer: Definitive Technology ProSub 800 BD/DVD: Oppo BDP-93 (Region Free) HD PVR: Motorola DXC3400 500GB w/ 1TB Expander BD/DVD/Game: 250GB PS3 Slim DVD/Game: 250GB XBox 360 Elite Special Edition (Black) Game: Wii Remote: Logitech Harmony One w/ PS3 Adapter WHS: Acer H341 Windows Home Server |

| Posted: | | | | In all fairness, there's some buttons that I still don't know what they do and I tend to learn a new trick or 2 per month or so, and I've been doing this for almost 10 years! |

| Posted: | | | | Thank you all for all the help. I've begun contributing now, hopefully I'm doing it correctly. I'm trying to be as thorough as I possibly can, but hopefully people will improve them over time. | | | TV set: SONY KDL-52NX800 BD/DVD-player: LG BH8220BN 5.1 Collection: 801+ |
