| Posted: | | | | Hi all,
I have a minor problem with "Prometheus" In the opening credits there are 2 credits for "Writers" (Jon Spaihts and Damon Lindelof)
In the end-credits there is a line saying "Based on elements created by Dan O'Bannon and Ronald Shusett" These are the people that wrote the original story for "Alien"
Now do these two get an entry in DVDProfiler, and if "Yes", which? I'm about to say "Yes", but I'm not too sure about it. | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up! But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

But since "Writer" usually means that we are dealing with an "Original Script", that by definition has no OMB, I'm not too sure about it. The current poll result is supporting this thesis though. | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up! But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

| Posted: | | | | In this case, what it means is - Based on 'Alien' by Dan O'Bannon and Ronald Shusett.
They just didn't want to say that for some reason. | | | Last edited: by GreyHulk |

| Posted: | | | | I have to ask, martian. How do you justify omb. Omb is defined as from another medium. Alien is not another medium. The screenplay did get adapted to a book...by Allan Dean Foster if I recall correctly. But the book did not beget the film. So omb...I don't see it | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! | Posted: | | | | Prometheus isn't an adaptation of Alien, but a sequel. If we had sensible rules on this topic, it would be a creator credit, but we don't. |

| Posted: | | | | First ace, it is not a sequel. Out of Ridley Scott's own mouth it is a prequel...sort of. Second you are not talking about a rule issue, but a limitation on the rules by the program. <shakes head> | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! CBE, MBE, MoA and proud of it. Outta here

| Posted: | | | | I would call it a prequel. I would lean more to OCB since this movie was based on the ship and creature that the people from the original Alien found on that planet. |

| Posted: | | | | Please Kathy or somebody explain your answer. It patently goes against the rules definition for omb. PCB makes more sense but even that I am concerned about. | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! CBE, MBE, MoA and proud of it. Outta here

So omb...I don't see it I would have thought my post was self explanatory, but I will attempt to explain. The 'Credited AS' column has "Based on ____ By" as an acceptable role for OMB. "Based on elements created by fits that credit. In addition, Dan O'Bannon and Ronald Shusett wrote the original story...note I said wrote, not filmed or produced. The written word is another medium, so it fits the notes. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. I understand where you are coming from but, if one has seen the film, it is pretty clear that it wasn't 100% original. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. | Posted: | | | | No that doesn't wash, my friend and you're splitting hairs to try and get something past another medium. That's not even remotely intellectually honest. The Only possibility would be ocn...maybe. But omb not a chance | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! CBE, MBE, MoA and proud of it. Outta here

| Posted: | | | | Does everything have to be an argument on this forum? Seriously, I'm going to stop contributing. It's certainly not worth asking a simple question anymore.
This one is clear.
Closing credits state - "Based on elements created by Dan O'Bannon and Ronald Shusett"
Rules state - "Original Material By" is "Based on ____ By"
Based on elements created by Dan O'Bannon and Ronald Shusett
And further research confirms the Original Material was by these two writers. | | | Last edited: by GreyHulk |
