Hi All,

I am sure I used to be able to do this but cannot see how now!

If I find a DVD missing from my Discgear storage collection of 1200 movies I want to find out what the name of the movie is.

The only way I can find out is by searching for the 'Location' in the software but cannot find how to do it.

Thanks for your help.

Best regards

Chris

You cannot search through the program directly, but you can use Mark Harrison's Database Query Plugin found here.

Install it, run DVD Profiler and go to the following options:

Tools -> Database Query...

Uncheck "Load cast/crew data" since it is not needed here and saves a lot of loading time doing so.

Once the list has loaded, go to the top of that window and click the fourth icon from the left that looks like a funnel and make sure that "Owned" is selected as well as all three options under "Box Sets." Click "OK."

Now click the "Personal Information" side tab and next to Field choose "Location & Slot" in the drop-down menu.

You can take it from there

Hi Blair,

Many thanks for that.

Makes my life so much easier, once I have found the movie name I will have a good idea of who has it!

Thanks also to Mark Harrison.

Best regards

The easier way would be to use the "Loan to..."-Feature of DVDProfiler.

After a pre-defined loan-time this will send you a reminder.
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

Hi Lewis,

That would be a good idea, but in this house the girls in my life, remove films, loan the to friends or leave them laying around.

Doesn't seem to matter what I say, I am continually fighting a loosing battle. But that is my problem. This solution helps me find the 'missing' films!

Best regards

That was easy!

Just messaged my Daughter and Wife on facebook with a list of all the missing movies!

Easier than printing a list for them!

The joys of technology.

And ... for yet another way:

Add the "Disc Location" column to your collection list display (right click on column title, then View Columns).

When you sort on this column, DVDP sorts internally by Location / Slot. I use this quite a bit myself.

*slaps forehead* All of this time using the program, and I didn't even realize that was there. (Since I don't use the Location/slot feature I never had need to check for it..)

I could either say, "Now I feel foolish. " or "Yea, but I like my way better! "

No need to feel either way. I am a great fan of and believer in having options. You never know when the program, your mood or other conditions will make one method more suitable in a given circumstance.

So, it's all good.

Hi Mediadogg,

Many thanks for the suggestion, but if I right click the column the window I get does not give a 'View Columns' option.

I guess I must be doing something wrong, but did try right clicking everywhere for an option such as this, before I asked.

Hmm, tried to upload a screen shot, but cannot find out how to do this!

Best regards

To expand on the picture Karsten shows, you need to set your View As List under the Collection tab, or press Control+F1.

Hi All,

Many thanks for your help. I was out all day and evening yesterday.

Took me a while to work it out. I normally have my set up as 'view as 'thumbnails'. On this view the screen grab above is not available. Once I changed to 'View as List' I got the complete list as shown and have now added 'Disc Location'.

Once again many thanks for your help.

Best regards

Chris
