Is there any site out there that compares DVD vs BD quality? I'm in the prosess of upgrading my DVD collection to BD's. I only want to change dvd to bd if the picture quality is significant better. The audio is not so important. So is there a site out there that compares this? I'm glad to hear from you

Many reviewers will compare the Blu-ray to an existing DVD.

DVD Beaver compares different DVD releases, and when they look at a Blu-ray that is already reviewed/compared on DVD, they add it in to the existing comparison.

caps-a-holic does some detailed DVD vs. Blu-ray screen comparisons.

Some on the above are just between Blu-ray vs. Blu-ray however.

I have seen this, but not enough by far...

The direct link to the Blu-ray section of the site is BluBeaver. I occasionally go there and in one or two cases have avoided upgraded based on the images there.

I used to use a lot of different sites until I realized you can just use Blu-ray.com. They *usually* have a section describing video quality.

I notice that a lot of times a movie will not even come out on Blu-Ray in the USA, but it will in Germany or England (for example, Carriers).

In many cases, it is indeed a high definition film scanned source and looks great. Some times, it is simply a DVD upscale (for example, Them). But as you can see, Blu-Ray.com doesn't help here, because people like me haven't taken the time to review it yet.

I find exactly the opposite happens too.  It's really annoying to see something only released on Blu-ray in the US and then I’m left scrabbling around to see if it's Region free or not, and wondering if I should pay £15-£20 for a copy or wait on the hope it gets released in the UK, or just give up and get it on DVD.  Maddening!  I've probably got about 15 films on my wish list like that at the moment, which I can't find out if they're Region free and that don't seem to have a Blu-ray release date in the UK.  Each time I check the sites selling them the DVD versions taunt me!

At the end of the day there aren't many Blu-ray films that aren't considerably better than the DVD version, especially if you've got a big screen to watch them on.  People on sites like Amazon soon vent their feelings if the Blu-ray is a bit of a dud.
Do you ever find yourself striving for perfection with an almost worthless attempt at it?  Guttermouth "Lemon Water".  Also, I include in my Profiler database VHS tapes, audio DVDs, audio books (digital, cassette and CD), video games (digital, DVD and CD) and 'enhanced' CDs with video tracks on them, as well as films and TV I've bought digitally.  So I'm an anarchist, deal with it.  Just be thankful I don't include most of my records and CDs etc in it too; don't think I haven't been tempted...

Take a look at JVBDigital.com for region free Blu-Ray players. Alternatively you can use AnyDVD and ImgBurn to make a region free ISO, then eithter burn it to a BD-R or BD-R DL, or watch it on your PC, PC Home Theater, or other means. (For the lowest price BD-R DL's, I buy factory sealed Mitsubishi/Verbatim blanks on eBay from the Japanese sellers.)
