| Posted: | | | | I would like to have either (preferred option) to have a new Category or another database.
My daughter has a collection and would like to keep it in dvdProfiler.
1) is it possible to create a new Category and keep here collection there? This would of course mean that we be able to enter some dvds that I have in my current 'owned'.
2) if that is not possible, how can I have an additional database and the point dvdProfiler to either mine or hers.
Thank you David Sigafoos |

To create a new category, select Collection, the Other (fifth item, after Wishlist), then Edit Collection Categories.
To create an additional database, select File, then Open Database. One of the options in the pop-up is New Database. Using startup parameters and command files will allow you to setup separate shortcuts for each database, should you choose this option. | | | Registered: February 10, 2002 |

| Posted: | | | | It probably doesn't matter that much, but just so you know if you create a separate collection rather than add new category to your collection, you can only upload one of the collections to your online collection. | | | Lori |

In trying your first option .. the collection Click on Collection on the menu and i get this There is no "the Other (fifth item, after Wishlist)". I must be misreading your post. Anyway I created a new Category. I then went to put a disc in that I already have as Owned. I still get the message that I already own it. So how can this work with Category? Thanks a lot, sorry i misunderstood what you said David Sigafoos |

| Posted: | | | | Go directly below where you posted the screenshot to the section All Owned Ordered Wish List and right click.
This will open up a box > click on Other. This will allow you to Edit Collection Categories. You can add your daughter's collection here. |

If you're using a new category you will not be able to enter duplicates (as long as you want to add them by upc). | | | | | | Last edited: by StaNDarD |

Yeah .. i 'knew' they were wrong about that but tried to follow the instructions anyway just in case I had missed something. Any ideas why you can't have DUPES. It happens .. out picking up a bunch and accidentally pick up 1 or 2 that you already have. Why can't you enter them??? Makes no sense at all. Thank you Dsig |

| Posted: | | | | Since you won't be able to upload the second collection anyway you can enter dupes locally by disc ID or changing locality. No big deal really. Or rather, they will upload, but without covers. | | | First registered: February 15, 2002 | | | Last edited: by Nexus the Sixth |

It's only online that the covers will be missing, since they don't exist in the online database (usually, if they do they might show with a different cover). There is nothing else missing from the profile that you upload and you can stilll display any cover you want locally. | | | First registered: February 15, 2002 |

By the way: it's impossible to add two profiles with the same disc-id (plus locality) as well, so this could be a problem too. | | | |

Makes no sense at all. You can't have dupes because Profiler uses the UPC/Disc ID as the identifier. Once added to your collection, you can't add it again. You can, however, use a manual profile...copying all the data from the regular profile. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. You can, however, use a manual profile...copying all the data from the regular profile. Additionally, this was originally designed as a hobby program (it still is). In the beginning there weren't even localities to distinguish the same UPC in two different countries (at least IIRC). It was never meant to be misused as a video rental shop program and thus in the beginning the need for two identical UPCs never arose. And now it's just the way it is. You can either add a manual profile with no update capability or you can increase the Count As field by the number of copies you have. | | | Karsten DVD Collectors Online

Thank you Dsig it would be easier for you to create a 2nd database - and then the 2nd one can have all the dvds under their proper UPC etc. You can duplicate profiles between databases | | | Paul |
