Back Up's Not Good From old version to Build 5009

None of my back up's will restore to version 5009 because they are made with an older version.  What is the purpose of making back ups???  I NEED to get to them once in a while... Why does the new build not allow the old versions to be restored?

I have hundreds of back up's that I need to get to once in a while. 

PLEASE HELP !

All older versions of backup files are completely supported, all the way back to version 1.0 (and before).  What exact message are you receiving?

Nevermind... it's because I created the backup with 5009 and trying to restore it to another machine running 1444
