My discs are in 4 locations.  I want to flag, for a report, all in the OFFICEx locations.

I went to create a filter for location but under PERSONAL there is no LOCATION.

Where can i filter my db with location?

That would have been a nice addition to 3.8.

ANyway, you can do what you want with the plugin Database Query. It will find and flag in one step.

Alternatively, in the Collection List pane, select the Disc Location column to be displayed, and you can sort on that column, then set the flags manually.

yeah .. but setting 900+ flags manually is really a bad way to spend time <G>

I don't know why ALL fields are not available in the filter section.

Thanks will look at dbquery again

Because it takes time to implement them and Ken deemed some more important than others.

Not meaning to be fussy or controversial or .. but i have been writing system sw for 30 years.  I understand what it takes to write.  I have written a selection/filter interface before so i understand that portion also.

But IF a product gives the user fields they can enter data into, that same product needs to provide means to filter, update and report on those fields.

Thanks

Agreed.
Otherwise these datafields are pretty much useless.

But since the filters currently are not available, I guess we'd have to wait for 4.x.
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

Manually does necessarily mean one at a time. Using flag all above and flag all below, followed by invert flags, you can set a bunch of flags with a few mouse clicks, or you can use Bulk edit to "flag between". These methods have been discussed in many threads many times.

By the way, I know you want everything in one place, but until there is, I just mention that the Bulk edit does have a Regular expressions Find/Replace that works on Location and other fields. This is more suited to programmer types, that's why I mention it now that you have revealed that you have those skills.
