Im trying to make room on my shelfs and move some of my dvd's to slim cases. I know I could scan the old ones but I was wondering if anyone knows of the best way or place to get the cover art. Thanks

I have read/seen online that some folks cut the original artwork by a couple of mm to make it fit in the slim case:  either a bit from the from the outer edges or a slit near the spine and overlapping.  Once you get over the initial horror of such a thought, the slight unsightliness may outweigh the tons of work in printing out new artwork.

You can scan the original, then open the image in an editor and reduce the spine width to 50%.

r1db dot com, but it's on a credit system so you have to contribute stuff others want to get credits. I could help ya with a couple covers if you find any you need as I have a few extra credits. They are strict on what they will accept and all covers are hi-res. Unfortunatly most are rental UPC's.

But they have exactly what you are asking for, almost all standard cover scans I looked for have a slimcase option as well.

A couple other ones that don't need credits, but aren't as high resolution:
cdcovers dot com
freecovers dot net

or

covertarget dot com (really the weekest and I've never found anything I wanted there, but works as another option).

If you want to make MAJOR room,  and you want to use those slim  case Clear covers,., exchange the discs over- then  use some 'averytype'  label ( 4''x1'' )  just for the Catalogued# /title / year and maybe running time only .. you could remove all the covers and keep them in shoe boxes somewhere .., or for that matter store all the dvd jacket art and hub cases in large cardboxes in storage ( if you should ever sell off some of your collection) .

Use Profiler for your display look . You could also if needed print out a coffee table look of your dvd covers for friends and family to have a 'hands on'  look for reading front and rear covers ..

if you think about it it makes sense .. in the old days ( or current days for some )  you crane your neck on a  90-degree angle and read the spines to find what you are sleuthing for the night (day)..,
Just use profiler to narrow your search down.. .and when you are moving those clear cases around on your shelf you use slot and location to pinpoint what shelf what number your treasured DVD is hiding.

No sense when adding a title to keep it in alphabetical order , far too much work in using your library location for updating all those spots becase of one addiiton.  if you just use a number system would make much faster in location and it also shows you and your family what your last addition ( and your first addition ) was...

You probably won' t like this answer  but Why Not ?

I only have 1700+ disc but i decided a long time ago to put all of the single disc dvds into sleves and store in drawers.  Easy to find.  I have a great big stack of covers.  Don't ever go through them .. hey who needs them when you have dvdProfiler <G>

I've moved my DVD collection to Metal cases. I then moved all the covers, and booklets into a three ring binders. I used one of thos big binders, and used photo pages to keep the Printed stuff.

Well .. after collecting DVD titles for over 15 years..my area for displaying these Movie jackets were  getting very cluttered and I was finding problems in locating a specific title within seconds .. was now taking me over 4-5  minutes to find some titles as  my library had  'gotten 'out of whack' in its rotation of chronological buys and alphabetical/ box set displays where now very over whelming  becasue of their odd shapes / size and dimensions ..

So I took the Plunge and followed my own advice I gave in this thread .. I chucked out all my Keep Case titles only .. BUT I kept my Snappers / Thin cases / digipacks / custom / and all my colorful Box set titles are displayed in its original containers . Snappers even though they could be taken apart I left as is .. all the others cases now fit very nicely on my 3 level  display rack.. ( actually an old China cabinet with doors and glass ) .

But those god awful Keep Cases got removed from these  shelves .  I removed the artwork sleeves ( for future sales if need be) and then stored all these  discs in a couple of  bound  'Braxton'  brand  zippered'  cloth cases.. ( 240 -  <30 pages x  8> plastic sleeves ) - which I picked up at a stationary store for ten bucks each . the paper sleeves were easily compressed into a cardboard box.

I put the discs in store-bought chronological order .,, NOT alphabetical ( would be a nightmare to be constantly rearranging titles ).. all titles that came as Main feature disc 1 and other features disc two - I then displayed the main feature face up (12' o'clock) .. and the behind the scenes  disc down at 6 o'clock . so it makes the display case of titles very Aesthetically pleasing .. and easy to find when thumbing through the pages . I numbered every other page with a felt pen for easy find. and I used Profilers Slot and Location for where these titles are located .
I also discovered once Profiler has been updated with location/slot  this info was kept when I updated the new library to Invelos servers and then brought back the information to my other computer the location was transferred .. so I didn't have to totally depend on backup -transfer .dpb to this other PC.

I do keep four  .dpb saved data on two harddrives and two flash drives that can be kept out of the house in case of fire or theft..

I also kept a handful of various types of Keep cases for emergency, and took three huge containers down to the recycling depot and threw them out ..

I also discovered doing this process that I was now looking at titles in hand that I haven't opened since I bought in some cases Years ..  Inspected each disc for rot (none).., finger prints and scratches as well as any  missing titles  ( I only found one ) -  where is my  Ratatouille  !!

I don't feel in any way or shape  a sense of loss  of doing this - as I NEVER looked at my display area with a sense of pride..,,  I only look at my Profiler with a Great sense of pride in looking after my titles and their locations ...
