I've seen many of the SR-71's though only after they entered retirement.

I've seen two of them and, gosh, they're pictured in the article! Yup, the one in the museum at Dulles and the one outside the museum in San Diego.

After I finished the Worldwide Military Command & Control System computer at USAF SAC at Omaha, NE, I was offered a job in Libya to connect US radar to Russian missiles. I said no thx, they just kicked Henry A. Kissinger out of there.

Well, the SR-71 wasn't really intended for Stealth - it's job was to outrun every offensive means used against it.

But then again, that speed would make it hard to see too!

A bittersweet day indeed watching Discovery come "home" to Dulles and the Smithsonian but she will be preserved forever. We can all see what the US can do. I hope that soon we will return to mannedspaceflight and exploration.
