| Posted: | | | | With the discussion about TinTin and other similar films such as The Polar Express and perhaps even King Kong and The Lord of the Rings trilogy and since many films use motion capture to bring certain (if not all) of a films characters to the screen I think it's time to add a motion capture check-box to cover these situations.
Of course documentation to use the check box would be needed. The films credits or if not there then a featurette or some other verifiable source to show that motion capture was used. |

Where would it go? What Section of DVD Profiler does it pertain to? and last but not least, Why? What value does it bring to the table? Why is it important to know that an animated film or a live action film with CGI characters used motion capture? Why is this significant? I'm not trying to be a pain or disparrage your suggestion. It's just that, personally, I don't think it's all that important...it's more like trivia, a fun fact, but not relevant to the profile. Also, it would be difficult to document in many cases. | | | My WebGenDVD online Collection |

From the topic: "check box to cast" Just like we now enter people who voice a character we could, and maybe should, enter those people as "motion capture" who give, well, motion and emotion to a character. cya, Mithi I apologize...failed to see Cast in the Thread Title. I've never seen Motion Capture credited in the Cast section of a film's credits. | | | My WebGenDVD online Collection | | | Last edited: by Bad Father |

This request stems from this discussion about Tintin, where the cast that provided the voice also provided the mocap. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. I'd personally rather know who the animator is than the person whose motion is being captured. It's their interpretation of the captured motion that's seen on screen. --------------- |

Why indeed. Personally I don't see the point. It just adds another bit of questionable data to argue endlessly about. | | | First registered: February 15, 2002 | | | Last edited: by Nexus the Sixth |

| Posted: | | | | Why? That should be obvious. Let's review a recent example. Andy Seerkis did such a great job portraying Caesar through mo cap that there was talk of an Oscar nod. Did he do the voice, all two lines. Maybe. But Caesar was an animated creature, we should log that as voice, that would completely ignore the performance and misrepresent the data. I know that its onlyvan animated character not a film, but the premise remains along with misrepresenting data or ignoring important aspects of a performance. | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! In a case like this, I think the facts would be misrepresented if the animator(s) weren't credited right along with the actor. --------------- |

Every crew role and actor. And no division between crew and cast, just one big happy family. Maybe that would speed up an id system. That would solve problems with "Same Name" BY, Common Name, CLT. And as to the OP, I would have to say the actors get a voice credit. But I think this is ADR to begin with. |

If an actor plays a role in a "digital costume" he just gets a voice credit. (Btw, for the small chance if the roles voice is performed by someone different, he still would get a voice credit even if he didn't speak one word in the movie?! ) Both actors have to do nearly the same job, but for one we track him as he just doeas the voice of a role?! With a motion capture check-box we could reproduce the reality much better. It's a big difference between just talking into a microfone and doing acting over motion capture, so we should be able to differentiate that. |
