| Posted: | | | | I submitted a contribition change for "Tuskegee Airmen" UPC 883929-188154
Now I got a no vote that said "All info good, but cover scans look washed out & softer compared to original image."
Now I don't have the best scanning hardware, but it does ok.
However this previously had two fromt images from a web site (if two fronts) so the contribution is replacing with actual cover scans.
Now by the rules aren't the actual cover scans preferred?
The scans thenmselves are not that bad to warrant a no vote in my opinion especially since there were no true scans there before. Of course if someone can scan them better they can be updated.
Will this get approved even if it has one NO vote? |

I don't know if you need 100% yes vote for a contribution to be approved, as I have made only about 30 contributions et never faced that situation. Surely, one would expect that the final decision takes the arguments presented in the notes into account. If I were in your situation, I would amend the contribution notes to include your argument that a scan of the actual front and back covers is better than two front images from a web site, even if the image quality is not significantly improved. |

| Posted: | | | | Cover scans are extremely subjective, I have often gotten "no" votes and had my scans approved. I have also had 100% "yes" votes and had them declined.
Cover scans are one area that I always lock locally. If you don't want your scans lost, I suggest you do the same.
If someone submits scans which, in my opinion, are better than the ones currecntly in the database I immediately copy and paste them locally. This way I get the scans I feel are the best and I don't have to worry about losing them if the voters or screeners disagree.
As far as your contribution is concerned, it is likely that that your scans will be approved since you are submitting the missing back cover. |

| Posted: | | | | I would have no problem redoing the scans, but I have made several image contribitions in the past. Learning as I go on how to adjust the scans. Based on previous feedback I am not sure what I can do to better the scans.
Any feeback would be appreciated |

I just get paranoid because of NO votes. I think you all know I have only been here around 80 days. But in that time I have contributed a lot relative to the time. I am just not used ot NO votes, because since I am new I see a NO vote as something I need to learn and immediatly fix.
It has been an interesting learnong curve. But since I PM all NO votes to learn why and correct I have learned a lot in a short time. |

| Posted: | | | | I've had less than great scans accepted because they were the only scans or like in your case, replacing two front scans. I'd just update your contribution notes, if it isn't already there, to say that they are replacing two front scans and they should be accepted. If they're not, resubmit as actual scans are required over ones grabbed online. | | | Lori |

| Posted: | | | | There is a lot of things to keep in mind when it comes to image contributions. like...
Not all computer monitors will see the same image the same way. I have especially learned this now that I have a new computer and can see a huge difference.
Not everyone's eyes will see the same image the same way. What looks good to one person may look like garbage to the next person.
In this particular case... I never liked an image that looks washed out... especially true now that I see the images better then I did before. So I normally vote no to anything looking washed out. But where you said you are replacing two front covers with front and back... I don't think I could vote no. I probably just would vote at all since I wouldn't want to vote yes on something that is washed out.
What I would do is if I had this situation... I would probably scan again and see if I can get better results. If I can I would resubmit... if I couldn't I would leave what is up now and let the screeners decide. | | | Pete |

If you ever have any questions or concerns feel free to ask - the community is quite helpful in helping whenever possible. I would like to clarify one thing regarding "no" votes. If you receive one on any contribution except for the covers, be sure and reassess your contribution. Usually when I get a "no" vote in those cases it is because I made a mistake or missed something. I then correct that data and resubmit the contribution. If, after checking, I still feel that I am correct I will send the "no" voter a pm explaining my rationale. In most cases the matter is settled. But, in very rare instances, there might still be a disagreement. I then carefully document the issue in the contribution notes so that the voters and screeners assess the matter and make up their own minds. In all cases though it is important not to take any of the votes personally. The goal of contribution process is to improve the database and the votes are a means of achieving that goal |

| Posted: | | | | I have, on occasion, left a pre-release front image in place because it was:
a) the right image (just not from the actual jacket) and b) i couldn't scan a better version of the image
In such cases i would submit a new back cover (replacing what was probably a duplicate front cover) and explain why i left the front cover alone. | | | Bad movie? You're soaking in it! |

The goal of contribution process is to improve the database and the votes are a means of achieving that goal I hear ya, I posted on his because I was not sure what to do. My previous encounters wih NO votes was I did something wrong, which is why I always PM to find out...mainly to learn and fix it correctly My paranoia lies in wanting to make correct contributions. Personally I don't get some of the negative posters here. I have gotten vast amounts of help by asking and so menay people just want to help to make the database better. It has helped the learning curve a lot. My experience is that if you approach the people here emphasizing that you want to learn the correct way the help comes in droves. | | | Last edited: by Scooter1836 |

| Posted: | | | | Another option is to only contribute the rear cover. In a case like this, with two front scans, most people will accept an inferior rear cover scan, as long as the front image is left alone. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. Personally I do not think they are inferior to what is there, but has many have said it is subjective. "Winston Smith" has offered to look at the scans and see if he can see a way to improve them so I e-mailed them to him. I think at the worst case I will do like you suggest I can resubmit with just the back cover. | | | Last edited: by Scooter1836 |
