Hard drive crashed-- how to restore collection without back-up on new hard drive?

Hi everyone,

I routinely backed up my collection to my hard drive... which isn't useful if the hard drive itself is going to crash.  From now on I'll be sure to back it up to my external.  This actually happened to me last year too, and there was some way I was able to restore my entire collection.  Was it from my Online Collection?  Or something else?  How do I go about getting all my DVDs back into my DVD Profiler?  I probably found the answer to these questions in these wonderful forums last time-- I'm just now having trouble searching the forums and finding exactly what I'm looking for in the FAQs and whatnot.

Thanks in advance!

Yes, you can restore from your online collection (minus any custom images). Just do Online->Dvd Profiler Online, then download your collection.

If you're talking about the Personalization window, I think it keeps everything except the Notes. But I haven't tried it in a while so maybe things have changed...

It keeps everything, including notes, tags, users, watched by data etc. Only thing you loose is custom images.

I never tried it.

I always thought the online collection did not keep any Personal Information at all, maybe because 'View your collection now' does not show any personal information at all. It keeps Tags and all? Wow!

I thought things like purchase date and price payed were lost as well, when you restore from the online database. Viewing history will be history as well ...

I think it used to be that way, but I believe it was changed a little while back.  Now, as Kulju said, the only thing you lose is your custom covers.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once.
We will teach it to them again.
Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.

Custom covers, headshots.... all custom images.
