Hi, I'm not sure i this is the right area to be posting but has anyone ever come across discs that are region free but play differently according to the type of player that's used?

For example I have National Treasure 2 on Blu Ray and when i play it on my region B player, it's in english and there are 4 audio choices, english, audio descriptive, japanese and commentary.

When i stick it into an A region player, all menus are in Japanese and the english audio descriptive option has disappeared from the audio options menu in powerdvd. I can't tell if it's missing from the disc menu itself as all menus are japanese.

Yes.
Don't confuse while the film is playing with when the film is played. [Ken Cole, DVD Profiler Architect]

Discs can be setup to have different menus, audio, subtitles depending on the locality (not to be confused with region) the player is configured for.

There are numerous discs that have one set of menu selectable options for my player (configured for the United States) and a different set for a player configured for Japan.  Both are Region A i believe.

Maybe the same thing can happen across regions but first i'd check where the players think they are (what country?)

See a related discussion here.
Bad movie?  You're soaking in it!

I was recently made aware of this too. I believe the recent Blu-Ray of the 1982 Conan The Barbarian (in the UK) is censored, but if you switch to a different Region (USA) it is uncut on the same disc!
