Using Episode Dividers in Cast Lists |

Can anyone give me an idiots’ guide to the use of Episode Dividers within Cast lists? The Rules don’t seem to say a lot about this, other than, “Also use episode dividers for full cast division, such as “Japanese Voices”.
From this, it’s not clear to me when Episode Dividers should be used within the Cast. (What’s “full cast division” meant to mean and why aren’t Group Dividers suitable for this?)
Thanks! - Paul | | | Do you ever find yourself striving for perfection with an almost worthless attempt at it? Guttermouth "Lemon Water". Also, I include in my Profiler database VHS tapes, audio DVDs, audio books (digital, cassette and CD), video games (digital, DVD and CD) and 'enhanced' CDs with video tracks on them, as well as films and TV I've bought digitally. So I'm an anarchist, deal with it. Just be thankful I don't include most of my records and CDs etc in it too; don't think I haven't been tempted... |

They are also for, as the rules say, full cast divisions...thats for things like dubbed films that list the on screen actors first, followed by the language specific voice cast in the credits.
Those are the only circumstances where Episode Dividers should be used as they indicate a completely separate cast list.
Group Dividers, on the other hand, are for cast that are grouped together under a generic role like 'Soldiers' or a group role like 'Bar Patrons'.
Basically, Episode Dividers denotes a completely different cast list, while Group Dividers indicates a sub-group within the cast list. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. | Posted: | | | | Thanks, that's helpful.
One additional thing. In a Cast list, if there's a list of people under a heading (for example Thugs) and then within that list there are further sub headings (say Older Thugs, Younger Thugs), should all the headings use Group Dividers, or should the earlier one use a Episode Divider, or is either technically correct?

If it's the cast list of the same movie or the same TV episode, just huse group dividers. | | | Karsten DVD Collectors Online

What prompted my original question was an update to an online profile I was considering submitting. This has Episode Dividers used where groups of Cast are then subdivided into more groups. (Death Wish 3 027616872968 if anyone is interested.) The Episode Dividers have been used for the ‘top’ divider in each group of groups and then Group Dividers used for the ones below each them, (similar to my Thugs example above). I changed them all to Group Dividers in my local profile but then didn’t include them as part of the submission, as I wanted to find out a bit more first. I may resubmit these now, once the existing submission has worked its way through the system. I’m sure it’s likely to get some No votes as they were introduced during a previous submission. I will prepare myself mentally!

Paul It probably started with my R1 contribution, that was approved. I tried using group dividers within group dividers but it didn't look right. I wasn't informed of the previous discussion on it or I would've pulled it and just kept it local. Until they come up with another divider to solve this group inside a group problem. | | | Last edited: by ateo357 |

I just fixed my profile for The Motorcycle Diaries, and I had the same problem. There are 3 big groups, and then smaller groups under those. Since there is no way to nest, I'm just keeping the big groups as episode dividers and not submitting. We can only hope that Ken fixes this problem in the next big update. | | | If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world. -- Thorin Oakenshield |

We can only hope that Ken fixes this problem in the next big update. It seems like there is always something unforseeable that when you use the rules it just doesn't seem right. If the Death Wish 3 comes up with proper deviders, I'll be voting yes. | | | Last edited: by ateo357 |
