Is hearing impaired notation CC only or can it be SDH or is considered subtitles?  All the newer discs, especially the Blu-ray titles list SDH only.

SDH=Subtitled for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. As T!M stated, SDH is not CC (Closed Captioned)

Another thread on the matter.

CC appears to be much less prevalent on Blu-ray discs than it was on DVDs.

According to Wikipedia:
Quote:
HD DVD and Blu-ray disc media cannot carry Line 21 closed captioning due to the design of High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) specifications that were designed to replace older analog and digital standards, such as VGA, S-Video, and DVI.

Blu-rays can't carry Closed Captions over HDMI, but they can have Closed Captioning enocded on them.

Many older 20th Century Fox Blu-ray releases do indeed have Closed Captioning on them.

What ends up happening, the BD device becomes the decoder, instead of the TV.  They have the same issues with Set top boxes for UVERS/Cable/Satellite.  They also cannot transmit encoded data over the HDMI stream.  The set top boxes decode and add it to the stream....
